In the year of 2007 most of our world became urbanized as more than half world’s population started living in the cities. Young people too choose to live in the overcrowded areas. They prefer to have an easy access to all at once: various education standards, entertainment, cultural events, job opportunities and high salaries. Lives of youngsters are quick and busy and there sometimes is no time for healthy living. They stay inside the 4 walls and forget how much the outside-of-town world can offer. They don’t realize how many opportunities of physical activity the natural habitat may deliver. The project ‘Let Nature be your sports teacher’ was created by young people who realized how important it is to stay active. Due to similar interests and care about the environment, we decided to combine sports with nature in order to an opportunity for even bigger learning. We believe that outdoor physical activity is powerful and it doesn’t only maintain the healthy body, but it also develops people. Natural environment is very supportive for a learning process and is very basic for a human-being therefore it provides a safe and calm setting for reflecting, socializing and development - physical, social and personal. Through our project we want to change habits in youth and motivate them to change their daily environment for a better cause in order appreciate the environment and opportunities that it gives and take as many benefits out of it as possible. Outdoor education delivers challenge, fun and experience that are the key elements in development of young people. Physical activity in natural environment provides new perspective, a chance to experiment and unknown challenging environment and through that it supports expansion of comfort zone of a youngster, increases self-confidence and improves ability in adapting to different situations. The project objectives were created by 9 young people with a support of a youth worker who collectively defined their needs and came up with the project idea. We distinguished 3 main objectives for the coming activity. Over the 11 months of the project duration 25 participants from 5 European countries (Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Poland, Portugal, Romania) will: 1. expand knowledge about opportunities for physical activity that the natural habitat gives; they will know more about benefits of outdoor sports and physical activity itself, gain information about survival techniques that may be useful when being outdoors (lighting a fire, star constellations, forest-orientation tricks, setting up a tent etc.) and learn more about natural environment and its role in people’s lives 2. improve skills among: outdoor sports (like kayaking, hiking, yoga), survival techniques, personal reflection for self-development; they will learn how to live healthy while living in the city and how to interact with natural habitat safely 3. develop an active attitude and change daily life habits; they will want to live healthy and do outdoor sports more often, they will be motivated to interact with nature and will appreciate its value in human life; they will be willing to share their positive experience and encourage other young people to do outdoor sports too. Youth will also benefit from participation in an international youth mobility project itself. They will develop competences of foreign language. Moreover, the interaction with various nationalities will increase the feeling of belonging to Europe and will develop their cultural awareness, open-mindedness and eagerness to interact more and stay internationally active. The participation in the project will also be a great opportunity to become more confident in public speaking, performing and conducting activities in a group. They will gain teamwork and leadership skills through active participation in sessions and will become initiators in their local communities.
