Objectives

The concept of the project "Visual Story Talent Lab (ViSTa Lab)" was created as a result of meetings and discussions of young people who bind their future with the film industry. The initiative group consists of young filmmakers - mainly aspiring screenwriters - who met during the HOMMAGE A KIEŚLOWSKI film festival in Sokołowsko, the event renowned and trusted by Krzysztof Kieślowski's friends, that is not only celebrating the work of this outstanding artist, but also an overview of the latest trends in young European cinema. HOMMAGE A KIEŚLOWSKI every year attracts a large group of young people from various European countries. During the event, are organized workshops, trainings and meetings of young, novice filmmakers. Youth from the initiative group took part in meetings dedicated to the screenwriting productions of Krzysztof Kieślowski. These meetings became an impulse for further discussions, in which young people interested in film screenwriting defined the basic problems hindering them to develop their own creative workshop, establish international artistic cooperation, exchange experiences with colleagues from other European countries, and thus also realisation of their international aspirations related to the development of their own creative passions. Young people specified two main problems related to their own international creative development: - the European film market is dominated by large Hollywood studios, and creative exchange between individual European countries is too small, - the knowledge of young film screenwriters on the possibilities of undertaking international cooperation and European mechanisms to support their artistic development is marginalised, and there are no educational centers that can offer this kind of educational offer. The youth clearly stated that the educational task related to the development of international cooperation between aspiring screenwriters from Europe has to fill a different structure, e.g. a non-formal education program, the aim of which will be to exchange experiences that will enable both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in their future creative development on the European film market. Taking advantage of the fact that in September 2019 in Sokołowsko will be organised the official opening of the "Krzysztof Kieślowski Archives", together with the launch of the website and the translation process of this unique Archives into English (so that the whole world can use it), young people wanted to initiate the project "ViSTa Lab" - a unique international youth exchange dedicated to topics related to film screenwriting. The project will be based on peer education of young, beginning authors, animating the exchange of experience and developing cooperation between young debutants from individual European countries. Young people, planning their venture, decided to concentrate on searching for modern and pioneering ways of exchanging knowledge and experience about film screenwriting and analyzing the opportunities and chances offered by European cinematographies in the context of support and development of young film talents. They stated that only creating an initiative constituting a European platform for cooperation of young screenwriters could become a real space of development, giving them the driving force and allowing them to go beyond the limitations related to the functioning of individual national cinematographies. In the transnational activities, implemented within the framework of European cooperation, young people interested in the future development in a difficult profession as a film screenwriter see not only their individual future, but also the future of European cinema. Each participant of "ViSTa Lab", by sharing their experience and knowledge will contribute to enriching the multicultural character of the project. The grassroots creation of an initiative that allows young, aspiring screenwriters to improve their passions will become a real impulse for development for the young European cinema. The program planned under the project will allow young people not only to develop creative skills, but also to gain practical experience and information on the rules of international sales of film scenarios, channels to reach film producers in individual countries and production criteria determining the potential success of the film in the European circulation. In the intention of the participants of "ViSTa Lab", this project will contribute not only to the development of their knowledge and experience on film screenwriting, but also to the development of artistic passion and motivation, as well as growth intercultural awareness and strengthen the European dialogue of young filmmakers. "ViSTa Lab" will enable them to navigate smoothly on the European market and allow for thoughtful artistic cooperation - thus matching the goals of the educational mobility of the ERASMUS + Program.
