Project summary

The conventional education world is facing a lot of challenges. The quality of teaching is being questioned and teachers, who need to fulfill the curriculum requirements have limited time for additional activities. At the same time, research proves that recent graduates lack soft skills and more practical education. Youth has a very difficult time (based on My Future's field research) to decide about the future career and education choice in an age of 15-19 when they are asked to make such a decision. No wonder they do not know, as they have never been working and had no or very limited contact with professionals. Polish non-profit foundation together with Danish organization working in the field of non-formal education decided to take the challenge and try to cover the gap existing between career and education by implementing the program; "PLAN YOUR FUTURE- bridging the gap between work and education". The program aims at promoting entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship among youth and making it easier for youth to decide on further education and career path. By implementing meetings with entrepreneurs/intrapreneurs with local as well as international companies My Future and IFAK aims at increasing the knowledge and skills and encourage and empower the youth to create their own business initiatives, and understand their future career opportunities. The idea of company-youth meetings in the form of non-conventional educations comes from the Danish approach of Role Model Teaching implemented in Copenhagen. Since 2014 leading and recognized business schools KNORD and recently DANIA in Denmark has allowed for continued developing of a non-conventional teaching approach, as an after-school activity. The concept receives sustained significant scores and endorsements by students and the business environment. Consecutively rated by the participant as “best of the education”. NOVO Nordisk, the worldwide leading medical company, recommended the methods to be applied throughout the learning environment. The curriculum doubled in attractivity, - measured by enrolments to the course. The role model teaching concept has the role of non-conventional teaching in the form of a meeting with professional, who is just around 10 years older than the participants and has significant achievement in career. Research proves ( Illeris) that the fear of failure increases when the gap between the learner and the teacher is perceived as too big. Therefore this methods allows the youth to understand that with effort success is achievable. They can also understand the path to this success, as someone who is just up to 10 years older, will share this experience. Before applying for the Erasmus+ KA2 project, the partners have made the field research to validate, if this idea is needed in Poland and if it should be spread geographically in Denmark. The partners made interviews with teachers, school directors, parents, and responses confirmed that such a solution is needed for the future of youth. what is very important, some of the teachers have said, that hearing from the manager of the company how important is knowledge of foreign languages, math, etc. would increase the motivation to learn and make it easier for the teacher to educate. What is more, the program will also connect companies and recruiters with youth and will create non-formal and informal opportunities to meet the students to create direct and long-lasting contact with them. The program will last for around 3 hours and will be dedicated each time to a group of 15-20 people from high school/ vocational school in Poland. Each meeting will have the following agenda: a) introduction by My Future about the program b) Schakespeak session (Danish tool which allows to ask questions without seeing who is the responder) about the future career/ education path c) speaker from company number 1 ( Topic: What does it take to be where I am now.) d) speaker from company namer 2: ( Topic: What am I using at work from education, what is my advice for youth, what are the daily tasks at my work) e) Q&A session The presenters will be coming from various backgrounds- eg. business, medicine, architecture, art, etc. The target group of this project is the youth in age 15-18 y.o. who soon have to decide about their future education and career path. Those are young people attending high school/ vocational school. The pilot project will be focused on groups 15-20 people from Mazovian Voivodeship (Radom district) and 4 pilot project meetings will be organized. Therefore around 60-80 youth will benefit from the pilot project and many companies. What is more, the pilot project will focus on the sustainability plan, therefore in the long term, much more people will benefit from it.
