Inclusion - equity

Objectives

It is a very common practice that young people from rural areas move to capital city or other big cities to study or work after high school graduation because they consider staying in rural area a disadvantage. What is also very common is discrimination and stereotypes about them, considering them as less educated because they come from rural area. This results in decreased self-confidence as well increasing social exclusion of young people from rural areas. The project’s main goal was to raise social inclusion, of 56 participants from 4 countries and raise awareness of the discrimination, and to reduce negative stereotypes towards youth living in rural areas and raise the self-esteem. We wanted to provide opportunities for young people so they are aware of opportunities in rural and urban areas, they are self-confident and equipped with effective tools to contribute to forming positive attitude towards people living in rural areas. Our objectives were to: 1. Change attitudes of 56 participants and finding useful tools to lessen stereotypes about young people living in rural areas in 4 communities in PT, LT, HU, SK. 2. Increase self-confidence of young people coming from rural areas from 4 countries and equipping them with necessary competences for smooth integration into different communities. 3. Familiarize 56 participants from 4 countries with alternative options for continuous contribution to their personal and professional development and learning, e.g. online courses, Erasmus+ programme. In conclusion, the project aimed to give young people more freedom of choice, to either stay in rural areas or move to bigger cities. By keeping a positive attitude about the place they come from and being aware of opportunities both in urban and rural areas, young participants have become more self-confident and equipped with the necessary and effective tools to contribute to a positive attitude towards people living in small towns and villages as well as in troubled suburban neighborhoods in bigger cities.
