Objectives

During our participation in some youth exchanges and international conferences which have involved different organisations, and during informal time, we came up with this idea of using storytelling, puppet theatre and traditional fairy tales and stories since it’s one of the most effective ways to raise awareness on young people about the topic of diversity and intercultural sensitivity. Nowadays, we have noticed that among us in the society it’s raising this misunderstanding of what are the differences of cultures, the concept of diversity and other relevant bases which should be common if we think about Europe and a Europe who wants diversity as an added value. This lack in the society is creating the spread of a lot of negative values such as xenophobia and especially Euro-scepticism. “The number of people residing in an EU Member State with citizenship of a non-member country on 1 January 2016 was 20.7 million, representing 4.1 % of the EU-28 population. In addition, there were 16.0 million persons living in one of the EU Member States on 1 January 2016 with the citizenship of another EU Member State.” (EUROSTAT). As mentioned by some of the MEPs of the European Commission is normal nowadays to live in a multicultural environment and thanks to the migrations is going to be even bigger the level of diversity in EU states. Starting from this topic, we decided to handle this exchange since as young people we are fascinated from traditional fairy tales and we have noticed making researches among our youth sectors that we do have similarities but meanwhile the spread of these fairy tales and the use of them are facilitating the process of understanding diversity of cultures and the dialogue among different cultures and identities for young people. In this way, the main aim of our project was to transfer to young people European values of diversity and the intercultural understanding and sensitivity through the use of puppet theatre and traditional fairy tales. Our specific objectives were: - To raise awareness on young people on intercultural learning and sensitivity through the use of puppet theatre and storytelling by using traditional fairy tales and stories. - To share among young people traditional fairy tales and stories through the use of puppet theatre and storytelling in order to discover concepts of identity and diversity - To enhance European values such as mutual understanding, tolerance, active citizenship and fight negative values as xenophobia, racism, homophobia and Euro-scepticism. - To discover and exploit the potential of storytelling by presenting traditional fairy tales and using puppet theatre with the feedback of external experts as a valuable learning procedure to develop intercultural competence for young people. - To create and realize a common intercultural fairy tale on the topic of intercultural learning by young people and present it in public as a puppet theatre for other young people at international and local level. Talking about the single objectives of Erasmus plus related to mobility of young people we have matched the objective of: -enhanced intercultural awareness; -more active participation in society; -better awareness of European projects and the EU values; -increased motivation for taking part in future (formal/non-formal) education or training after the mobility period abroad. According to the 2019 objectives related to the action KA1 in the youth field we have addressed the following objective: -reaching out to marginalised young people, promoting diversity, intercultural and inter-religious dialogue, common values of freedom, tolerance and respect of human rights.
