Objectives

Every NGO involved in the “Wellbeing Through Hiking” applied Erasmus+ project (YES- Romania, CJE-Portugal, ICDET- Bulgaria and TE- Lithuania), reported more than twice number of potential participants from their organizations, some of them over 20 years old. ICDET (Bulgaria) asked if there is a possibility to use rock climbing in future projects, because 2 youths are practicing this sport and are willing to share with other young people rock climbing. After consulting their potential participants, YES, CJE, ICDET and TE found out that all the youths were thrilled by the idea of practicing rock climbing and hiking. In fact, rock climbing is a natural progression from hiking and the 2 topics are deeply related by common terms, like for example “exposure”. Most of the participants come from big urban areas, mostly from the 4 capitals (Bucharest, Lisbon, Sofia and Vilnius), so they are very far from hiking/rock climbing routes in the mountains and have few information about hiking/rock climbing and opportunities to hike/rock climb. Therefore, the project responds to their needs to learn more about hiking/rock climbing. For some of the participants, it will be their first opportunity to hike/climb in mountains and for most of them, hiking/climbing in Romanian mountains will be their first experience. We selected the mobility dates, using the local weather statistic for Balan, which shows at the end of July, the most comfortable temperatures averages for rock climbing in the Hasmas Mountains and the second most stable and precipitation-free month during the warm period of the year (August being the first). Also, because the majority of our participants are high-schools/university students, we took care that the mobility dates are during the summer vacation, in all 4 participant countries. We extracted from the filled Participants Application Forms the most relevant needs or reasons of participation: 1- learn how hiking and rock climbing influences health and wellbeing; 2- learn to hike/rock climb; 3- love nature; 4- spend more time in nature; 5- like outdoor activities; 6- know more about Romania and Romanian Mountains; 7- speak better English; 8- meet other people from different countries and find out new things about other cultures. The aim of our project is to fulfill all the above-mentioned 8 needs/reasons of the participants, in a safe and friendly environment. The objectives of the project are: O1- increase awareness among the 56 youth participants of this project, from Romania, Portugal, Bulgaria and Lithuania, including the ones with fewer opportunities, about the importance of practicing physical outdoor activities, until the end of the mobility. O2- decreasing the time spent using social networking websites and movie streaming sites, among the 56 youth participants from Romania, Portugal, Bulgaria and Slovakia, including the ones with fewer opportunities, until the end of the mobility. O3- rising the notoriety, in the communities where the 56 youth participants live, of the importance of practicing physical outdoor activities and about Erasmus+ Programme, until the end of the project. This project respects the National Horizontal Priority for KA1 Erasmus+ Applications, established in the Romanian National Call for Proposals 2019- which is Inclusion- by: - promoting undertaking of common values for all participants of the 4 countries; - equality, nondiscrimination and social inclusion, because of the presence of the participants with fewer opportunities from each of the 4 European countries; - one of the aim of the project is to develop social, civic and intercultural competences. This project respects also the National Priority no.2 for KA1 Erasmus+ Applications in the Youth Sector, established in the Romanian National Call for Proposals 2019, by supporting the inclusion and employability of the youth participants with fewer opportunities from all 4 countries. This projects respects also the following Erasmus+ General Objective, present in the Erasmus+ Programme Guide 2019- the objective of developing the European dimension in sport, in particularly grassroots sports, in line with the EU work plan for sports. This projects respects also the following Erasmus+ Objectives for KA1 in the Youth field, present in the Erasmus+ Programme Guide 2019: - improved foreign languages and competences- for all 56 participants, after the mobility; - enhanced intercultural awareness- for all 56 participants, after the mobility.
