The main aim of this project is to raise awareness about non-discrimination, tolerance and intercultural dialogue, to raise the capacities of the youth on recognizing and fighting discrimination and promoting tolerance using drama methods and to promote mutual understanding between young people from different backgrounds. The organisations involved in this project have faced diverse opinions and experiences of participants and staff related to discrimination or intolerance This is the main reason we have been engaging in a deep research and activities on these issues. Some youth we as organisations work with came to us with the interest of setting up a project on this topic (theater against discrimination), and it was the start of this project to empower young people to recognize and stand up against discrimination. The theatre method has been chosen because it is an extremely efficient active learning approach that allows exposing and discussing such a difficult topic as discrimination. The objectives of the project are: - To promote European values in accordance with Article 2 of the Treaty on the European Union; - To promote diversity, intercultural and interreligious dialogue, common values of freedom, tolerance and respect of human rights among young people; - To enhance young people’s knowledge about discrimination, prejudices and stereotypes; - To develop young people’s acting and self-expression competencies to increase their self-empowerment and self-esteem; - To create a social-issue-oriented performance to discuss the issue of discrimination of people with fewer opportunities in the community; - To develop young people’s capacity of exposing and solving social problems using drama methods; - To promote tolerance, non-discrimination, inclusive approaches among young people and their local communities.
