Most young people today do not recognize the values of social dance, their social environment is defined by life on virtual social networks. One of the basic premise of the project "Social dance and youth" is that with an appropriate and active inclusion of young people we can influence the involvement of youth in social dance activities and the local swing community. By appropriate involvement we mean using methods, forms of teaching and working with youth in ways that they will recognize social dancing activities as possibilities for their own engagement in dance movement activities, healthy leisure time, the spread of social networking, opportunities for informal lifelong learning and personal development. One of the important messages that the project wants to give to young people is that regardless of their appearance, education, socioeconomic status, nationality, gender or age, individuals can participate equally in social dance activities as in development of the local social dance scene. To be able to persuade teenagers and excite them for all the positive aspects of social dance, we need to better train dance teachers in their youthwork abbilities. Project`s goals and effects of the results are multi-layered, defined by the target groups included in the individual parts of the project. We want to use the rich experience of dance teachers from different European countries, and implement their knowledge within creation of an intensive dance workshop for youth aged 15-18 years. In the course of structured group-work, teachers will share their own pedagogical experiences and knowledge and for most learn from one another. The created prototype of the Youth Workshop will later be distributed and tested by youthworkers at secondary schools in their own local environment. In this way, we are expected to reach a larger number of young people in different European countries, influence their value system, and try to excite them for regular engagement in social dance activities.
