This Erasmus+ Youth KA1 Project-ENERGY ACTION (EA) seeks to work with youth workers (YWs), who are actively working with young people (YP) to develop their skills and experiences around the use of sport and culture to tackle the needs of YP. The project will equip our participants with skills and direct sport and cultural experiences around tackling the needs of YP from partner countries. This will then enable our YWs to develop innovative activities for their YP in their home institutions. to tackle the problems YP face for instance in the YP we want to use sports and culture to tackle youth disadvantage and knife crime. The project will provide YWs from the UK, Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland and Turkey to come together in Turkey on a intensive training course. lasting 7 days, it will include workshops, practical activities and direct support of local YP, for this reason our YWs need to be prepared to deliver training sessions in small groups The reason for this project includes: 1) equipping YWs with new skills and experiences to broaden out their skills base 2) allow YWs to exchange experiences with other working across similar issues 3) provide examples of best practice around sport / culture, that can adapt in their home countries - thereby creating a project compendium of ideas, lessons and events that can be shared with other YWs and youth organizations. 4) Leading to a better understanding of the use of sport and culture as engager to support and sustain YP into positive actions. 5 ) facilitate peering learning with YWs 5) provide our YWs with the experiences to work with YP in a Sport and cultural setting that focuses on working with YP with Ezurum, Turkey 6) helping YWs connect with youth culture and the societal issues they face in partner countries and their similarities this will enable us to test our approaches, we intend each partner to pilot the learning gained in home institutions and report back. Erasmus+ programme will provide the funding needed to test our theory of using sport and culture as engager and hooks to provide support to our YP. This is especially important given Youth Service budgetary cuts across the EU. We can provide our YWs with the knowledge and skills and experience to work with YP in a much more innovative and creative away. For instance we could use sports and a way to tackle youth violence, substance abuse and health living. Using sport to help young people resolve personal aggression in a constructive way, Culture as an engager for those YP not interested in sport. This also provides opportunities of inter-generational learning by bringing YP and older generations together. The reason for this project is that across the EU due to public budget cuts lots of youth work services and training opportunities for YWs has been lost or focused on key issues. Funding for Sport and Cultural learning and training has been reduced, with many skills being lost. This project will enable us to rediscover this, develop a resource of materials and blogs as well as helping to train new YWs. It links to the EU principles by enabling the exchange of ideas and learning, the mobility of YP, creating an EU identity and self worth as well as improving skills and youth provision. By developing the project we hope that our youth workers are able to: 1) Better work with YP, engaging with sport, traditions, culture and art and interpreting it in a modern way around societal issues effecting YP 2) Be more confident and have new skills and experiences and be prepared to support YP facing complex issues 3) See themselves as Europeans able to access learning and training opportunities across the EU 4) Be able to develop their own projects and ideas based on learning from the Project to improve youth work provision We want to use this project to open a dialogue between YWs, many of who work with YP all facing the same problems (low skills, low confidence, alienation from mainstream society, anti social behavours, disability, pregnancy, exploitation, violence, substance misuse, educational failure, etc), by bringing YWs together we hope that we can create an exchange of ideas that will show everyone that we can work together to develop common solutions. These solutions will then be a vehicle for skills and provision development within partner countries. We are using the Sports and culture, as a basis for learning this is primarily due to the fact that many YWs are not so comfortable working across these concepts. But through the projects training course we hope to empower them to uses these methods of engagement and informal learning as hooks to engage, empower, motivate and support YP in order that their needs can be met. The added value here is that there will be a compendium of learning shared across partner countries and that pilot projects will be active project outcomes
