The objectives of the project were to highlight the importance of active citizenship, to promote and encourage active participation on democratic life, including that of voting and the involvement of youth in policy reform. The project allowed youth to simulate democratic life, and more so life choices which impact them and democratically find the best solutions, learning how different choices have an impact on our lives and more so understanding that being a policy maker is not always easy, and that the citizens of any country need to participate in policy reform in order for the policies to be designed and made for their benefit. Although it was not a priority of the project, the COVID pandemic played a vital role in allowing us to understand how policy reform and laws, not only in our countries but in the EU, impact our lives, and how the action of few often impact the many. We believe that this project gave our youth a better understanding of the European democratic system, the systems in place in our countries and the importance of active citizenship. Through the different activities and simulations participants took on the roles of policy makers and stakeholders and created policies, worked together to understand that different people have different needs and a different understanding of situations. We learned that only through voting and being active in our society can we make changes and that ensuring that there is always a connection between citizens and policy makers. Beyond the project participants the partner organisations learned how to keep youth informed about current situations and continue to educate them about active citizenship and to ensure that each local society has access to policy makers to express their views and opinions.
