Objectives

In the last several years Europe has faced major challenges- the Syria`s conflict resulted in millions people fleeing from their homes and in the context of the refugee crisis, there has been a great increase in nationalist movements and attitutes, political populism. Moreover this resulted in incrased use of hate speech, discrimination against migrants and refugees, even violence, even hate crime, media and political propaganda, fake news. All this directly affects European values and the future of Europe. In this context young people play e key role as being not only the future of Europe but its present. They are the ones who truly believe in European values and need to protect them now more than ever. But at the same time they are rather vulnerable-a lot of time they have low media literacy and lack of analytical skills thus can get easily manipulated by any anti-migrant and ultra nationalist political formations and groups promoting violence and justifying hatred and intolerance. In this context of lack of solidarity with refugees successful integration is almost an impossible mission which by itself is a threat to security in the EU. During the exchange, young people will have the opportunity to discuss key concepts such as freedom, justice, equality, human dignity, non-discrimination, democracy, tolerance, European values, rights, responsibilities, media and fake news, hate speech, hate crimes , extremism, violence, peace and solidarity. In addition, we also believe young people need to be aware of their own role in protecting human rights but also need to be equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to tackle hate speech and human rights violation. In order not to fight back hate speech with more hate and violence, the project will promote peaceful ways to engage youth and make them ambassadors of human rights The main objectives of the project Art&Youth for Human rights are: - To raise awareness among youth about hate speech and hate crimes as a human rights violation. - To encourage positive attitudes, solidarity and tolerance for refugees and migrants - To introduce possible non-violent ways to counter hate speech and to provide channels for reporting hate speech online -To encourage media literacy, analytical and critical thinking - to introduce The NO hate speech movement as a way for youth to get engaged in human rights protection - to present art/ graffiti and storytelling/ as an effective non –violent tool to tackle human rights violation and hate speech - To Stimulate the active engagement of young people by encouraging them to be become ambassadors of human rights protection - To Promote tolerance, mutual understanding and dialogue between young people of different nationalities. The project will raise awareness among participants and other young people about Europe's major issues in an interactive, understandable and inclusive way. It will give them a platform for learning, exchanging experience and acting together against human rights violation. Art and in particular , Graffiti and storytelling are interesting and engaging for young people and will stimulate them to do something against hate speech. The exchange will show the youth their own power and that they can play a key role in the fight against hate speech. They will realize how important is not to be passive, thus they will be inspired to engage their peers. The exchange will provide them a platform to discuss topics that are usually not tackled by formal education making them aware of the possible effects of hate speech such as hate crimes, youth radicalization, extremism, discrimination, division in society, social and other conflicts. Moreover, the most valuable results of the project will be the change in attitudes of youth about their own role - they will realize the power of non-formal education and the importance of not being ignorant, will promote responsibility towards the society. Very often young people think that they can not change anything by themselves, that nothing depends on them, and the project will show them that every action is important that they can use methods such as storrytelling and graffiti to engage more young people , with which to tackle hate speech among their peers.
