Objectives

The objectives of the project were: - To inform youngsters about human rights and European Citizenship; - To inform youngsters about political issues and importance of active participation in elections; - To inform youngsters how national and European Parliament works and it’s main functions; - To inform youngsters how they can influence of future of country and Europe by active voting on elections in order to improve the quality of life in their countries; - To inform youngsters about importance of wide spreading information about elections in local communities. Our project aimed to help young people in understanding human rights and civic participation. We met all objectives, exceeding expectations in several areas. Information about human rights and EU citizenship was presented in the form of workshops in simulations. The main technique used was “learning by doing”. Our group, over 70% of which claimed they were not interested in politics at the onset of the project, held its own simulated elections on Day 3 of the training, having passed from social theory of Hobbes and Locke through democracies of ancient Greece. Learning by doing helped us exceed expectations and achieve a deep understanding of politics. The structural explanation of EU institutions was performed by a Member of the European Parliament himself and (after 3 days of active simulations and workshops with the methods of non-formal education) sparked interest by participants, being one of the sessions with highest marks from participants.
