The overall aim of the project was to raise awareness among young people about the benefits of using sports and outdoor activities as tools for inclusion of marginalized and vulnerable groups. The objectives were met in the following way: To promote the value of sport as a tool for social inclusion and active participation – This project was a unique experience for all participants meeting for the first time and working together on the project’s topic. Thus, they strengthened their knowledge in the field of using sports, traditional games and outdoor activities tools for social inclusion of vulnerable and marginalized groups. They also had an opportunity to make a research about how their countries and communities use sports & outdoor activities as tools for inclusion and share the realities in their countries regarding this issue. Thus, they were able to learn from other countries’ practices and their achievements. To tackle the topic of equality – reflecting on the idea of inclusion of vulnerable and marginalized groups in the society raised the question about inequality of opportunities between people. In that sense, the project raised participant’s awareness about the importance of striving for equality among people on every level. To provide an experience of intercultural learning activities to all the participants involved in it – the participants regularly worked in mix-intercultural teams that actively supported interaction of participants from different cultural backgrounds. Providing a space for youngsters from different cultures to meet and discuss on the project’s topic enabled them to interact with each other and express thoughts and feelings in a foreign language, which also helped to develop their intercultural communication skills. Presenting customs, traditions and values during the intercultural evenings also added value to promoting cultural diversity. To encourage personal development through sport and outdoor activities, with an objective to bring more awareness about the equality in everyday life of all the people involved in it - this project served as a great example of active young people making a positive contribution in the society by investing their ideas, time, skills and knowledge for the benefit of all. Also, it was an example of good practice for inclusion of young people in voicing their views and opinions and putting in practice their own ideas according to their needs, through participation in non-formal educational activities. Putting participants in the spotlight and supporting them in carrying out this Youth exchange, including the organisation and participation in the final event, proved to be a big self-confidence boost for them, which was shown in the pride and satisfaction of the participants at the end of the project. To raise awareness of intercultural communication as part of teamwork (and teamwork in general) and to provide opportunities for learning about each other’s reality – the collaboration between participants coming from different parts of Europe, allowed them to embrace the differences between people coming from various backgrounds, to understand the importance of intercultural communication and to recognize the value in all individuals and their diverse abilities and contributions to the project. Also, the project’s activities were directed towards encouraging participants to discover their cultural values, talents, strengths and weaknesses, to combine them and put them to a good use. To learn more about the Erasmus+ Programme and the opportunities that it offers for young people - a session has been dedicated to the Erasmus+ Programme and Youthpass during exchange mobility in order to give participants’ important information about the educational opportunities at their disposal. Also, the locals got informed about Erasmus+ during the outdoor activities in the Greenwich area and the centre of London. To provide the participants an opportunity to share practices, to reflect on common challenges in the field of living in intercultural environment - Providing a space for youngsters from different cultures to share different practices from their countries related to social inclusion of vulnerable and marginalized groups through sports and outdoor activities enabled a unique experience of understanding and expressing thoughts and feelings in foreign languages. Also, the participants regularly worked in mix-intercultural groups that actively supported interaction of participants from different cultural backgrounds in a foreign language. In addition, the participants developed communication and team work as one of the main competencies, but also increased their leadership mindset and gained more confidence to facilitate workshops. They also gained more understanding of the Erasmus+ programme, Youthpass certificate and its main 8 competencies, as well as of other youth opportunities offered, such as the European Solidarity Corps initiative.
