Objectives

This training course aimed at providing exactly those competences to effectively structure and deliver public communication, aiming at their peers, members and organisations, as well as to those young people who are not active in the youth CSO sector. To demonstrate that there is a choice, there is another voice, and ultimately that there is an opportunity to join the local youth NGOs. Secondly the present attraction to extremism and xenophobia from the streets, and in many countries up to political level, is certainly an obstacle to the youth work culture that has been created over the last two decades, therefore it is today a necessary competence to be aware on how, and the purpose, of structuring campaigns aiming at speaking to the public the point of view of the professionals working in the youth field, and their target groups, and what are the real needs and real issues at stake, in order to strive for change and improvement, in the spirit of the Youth for Europe, Youth, Youth in Action, and presently Erasmus Plus programmes. This training course empowered participants into smart and efficient use of social media, thus reflected into future initiatives that they will create, causes that they will support, as well as future and ongoing projects and campaigns. Our objectives were: 1) Understand participation as a core value for inclusion in Europe, and its implication is responsibility as youth workers and leaders 2) Through experience and practice understand how social media functions and its potential as a tool for activists; 3) Understand the principles of public communication from philosophy to psychology and its importance on youth worker reality; 4) Explore movements that made history and imagine how they would have looked if social media existed; 5) Tools for critical thinking of web-based information, understanding of hate/smear campaigns when used for young people; 6) Reflect on own reality, transfer and action planning of messages to involve young people to act;
