Young people with trans, non-binary and inter gender identities as well as young people with sexual orientations other than heterosexuality need a queer community around them: - in order to get to know the feeling of being safe from (at least some forms of) discrimination - in order to organize themselves as active citizens claiming their human rights - in order to recognize that queer people need to stand in solidarity with those among them that are even more marginalized (because of social class, race, national context, HIV status, etc.). With this youth exchange, we wanted to strengthen the online active citizenship and self-confidence of young queer people. We wanted to empower young queer people to become active on Wikipedia and to write about queer topics in their native languages by having workshops and discussions about how to edit Wikipedia as well as queer politics. Giving a space for queer youth from different countries empowered them to be able to be themselves. Our objectives were: 1. Create a safer space for queer youth from around Europe to be themselves, both at the youth exchange and in their daily lives after the project. 2. Promote young queer people’s online active citizenship and increase their participation in the open knowledge and the queer movement 3. Foster mutual understanding and solidarity between young queer people in different European countries 4. Make more and better quality content around queer issues on Wikipedia in the native languages of the participants 5. Promote Erasmus+ as an opportunity for the Wikimedia and open knowledge movement 6. Create partnerships between the open knowledge and the queer movement 7. Promote European values of democracy, human rights, gender equality and non-violence 8. Empower young people to take their learning in their own hands through non-formal education methods and informal learning 9. Create a fun and informal space for young people to improve their ICT skills
