Objectives

With the Diversity festival we celebrated the cultures of European nationalities. All the project partners are working in this field and as young members they are often given the responsibility, that they preserve it and raise awareness for them. However, this shows to be remarkably challenging at times. Thus, the objectives and topics addressed in this event were mainly to work for the rights and special interests of the minorities’ youth. The exchange should stimulate personal growth, empower and broaden the participants’ horizons and create more awareness in public and among adult minority organisations about the special challenges youth faces. The objective of this project was to create a space for young people who are part of a national, linguistic or ethnical minority youth organisation. This space enabled youth to learn from each other and from peers in similar situations. Working collectively allowed for personal growth and helped to raise awareness about the issues relevant for youth belonging to national minorities in the region. To achieve these aims, being as inclusive as possible, we decided that the program should consist of different artistic and cultural workshops and activities that promote creative thinking. Simultaneously the Europeada – the European soccer cup for national minorities – was held in the same region. To see other good practice examples, raise awareness of youth issues in minority communities and meet different minorities we visited them twice. There we presented parts of our programme and we had the opportunity to network with other members of different European minorities. Furthermore, visitors of Europeada were invited to join our final event to see the progress we had during the week. Moreover, our project had the objective to support the young participants in their personal development, in becoming Self-aware, developing their foreign language competences and becoming interculturally competent. The main issues and needs addressed with this project were those of youth from national, linguistic and ethnic minorities. They are in need of solidarity and empowerment experiencing discrimination, segregation and exclusion to varying degrees. Experiencing an international event and feeling connected to youth in similar situations can give them support and motivation, they need to be active members of society while being confident with belonging to their minority. Additionally, our partner organizations had a need for visibility towards adult minority organisations, local communities and the wider public so that they can successfully advocate for youth issues as well as minority rights.
