The project Human Rights Education Hotspot was conceived in 2018 after the General Assembly of HREYN adopted a Strategy 2019-2024, which with its four general aims sets to achieve advancements in the field of human rights education in Europe. The project Human Rights Education Hotspot (HREH) was thought to kick start the strategy and feed various global and European policy documents on the topic, like the Fourth Phase of World Programme on Human Rights Education and the Council of Europe’s Charter on Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education (EDC/HRE Charter). The HREH was planned as a partnership building activity which would give necessary inputs to the participants about the strategy, principles set by HREYN and themselves, choose the priorities and create projects under Erasmus+, European Solidarity Corps and beyond. The objectives of the project were the following: - To update the participants at developing projects for youth under Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps programme - To create a task force of youth workers and educators and generate project proposals feeding the UN World Programme while addressing the contemporary challenges of human rights activism and education; - To increase the capacity of the network by discussing organisational management strategies and to establish quality standards for the human rights education programmes and projects within the network and outside; - To exchange successful practices of human rights education within youth work between the partner organisations and integrate human rights education within youth work; - To increase educational opportunities on human rights for young people at the member organisations and beyond; The project has been gravely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the organising team had to reschedule the mobility several times and in the end implement it in a split version - the first mobility has been hosted in Dworp, Belgium, and the second one in Timotesubani, Georgia. Besides the vast array of challenges the project team and participants managed to achieve the project objectives. The HREH project has played a positive role on the network’s sustainability and the strategy and has motivated the participants - youth workers and educators to become more active in the field and create opportunities for their target audiences.
