Objectives

"There is no Plan(et) B" was born from the interest of the youngsters that participated. The idea appeared after the speech that Greta Thumberg gave in 2019 in front of the European parliament in April 2019. When the news appeared in the media some of the youngsters involved in this project were shocked by her words and the big power they had for the whole Europe. These youngsters saw in her speech the opportunity of making a difference and got empowered to be also part of the change makers that fight for protecting the world and its nature. The spark that youngsters showed was already enough to encourage them to make this project real. We can say that “There is no plan(et) B” was the answer of the needs that came directly from the worry of who is the future of our planet: young people. This project seeked to address the climate change issue, its causes -facts – and consequences, taking in account that it is something we all get affected from. The tool that we chose to express this main objective was digital art, in concrete, audiovisuals. This choice was completely achieved and the proof is the final video thought, designed, filmed and edited by the youngsters themselves. This video can be checked on this link: https://youtu.be/iTSGQ8xD9kI From another side, the main objective of “There is no plan(et) B” was to raise awareness about what climate change means, showing its consequences but also showing the opportunities that society still has to fix it. At the beginning we wanted to implement this idea in Armenia, together with what was our partner Doctor Cinema, also because this country is plain of natural resources and with no truism at all. Besides, out of the 503 municipalities that Armenia has, 457 are considered rural communities. However, and due to the pandemic, the country had to be changed three time, finally getting our current partner WorldWide Friends from Iceland. Iceland also played a nice environment for the youngsters because there they could see the direct consequences of climate change. For example, almost all of Iceland‘s glaciers are receding, and scientists predict that they may largely vanish in the next 100-200 years. Of special concern to Iceland is ocean acidification, which may have a profound impact on the marine ecosystem. During the 10 (8 program days) of “There is no plan(et) B” we achieved the stated objectives: 1- We realized that we can do more than we think, empowering ourselves as agents of social change in our communities. 2- We got more information about the CC situation (causes- facts- consequences) and the EU actions regarding this topic like the European Green Deal through the workshops "Introduction to climate change past/present/future" and "Footprint Humans vs Nature". 3- We discovered possibilities of participation and performance through the workshop "Fridays for future" 4- We developed new digital-art competences and boosted our creativity using IT tools through all the workshops of the video creation. 5- We learned how to reflect, evaluate and disseminate our learning/results using creative ways through all the group reflections and the Youthpass sessions too. While being in nature we wanted to work on the following objectives, that were achieved too: 1.Experience the cause-effect relationship between our actions and its responsibilities. We compared how Iceland was some years ago and how it is now. We also saw, how much the temperatures rose up and saw how fast the snow melted while being there. 2. We could identify and control our feelings and emotions before the successful experience of uncertainty situations and physical and mental stress. An exchange can be a big challenge for some youngsters that have never been so far from home and have never shared so much time with other people in the same house. Also this exchange helped us to get to know ourselves better, our needs (for example hours of sleep) and our priorities. 3.We learned how to manage conflicts, as well as to make decisions critically working in teams and using inclusive, tolerant and respectful communication. Although there wasn't any conflict during the project among anyone, we had to work mainly in groups and make debates and take decisions that we needed to manage as individuals and as a group too. 4. We got the chance to know the values that accompany the development of physical activities in natural environments from a sustainable point of view for nature and for us too. The objectives of “There is no plan(et) B” were rigorously based on the priorities of Erasmus+ and we can be proud that we met our expectations and go even further learning more. All this was possible due that we emphasized the open space for coexistence and co-learning in which positive exchange of cultures in respect with nature allowed us to create international ties that transformed and empowered us.
