The idea of the project was created by a team of youth workers and volunteers to work in involving young people in civil society. Europe faces great trials - refugee wave, Brexit, economic changes. At the same time, the statistics (the Friedrich Ebert Foundation's and 201st Policy Innovation Institute's studies in 2019) shows low youth interest in European and local policies combined with very low youth political participation and lack of a desire for a political career. Many of the youths don't have any interest in learning about the way of how the institutions or the goverments are working, but still share an opinion that they are dissatisfied with the political governance. Some of the possible reasons for that are that young people think their vote cannot change anything, they don't want to be bound by a particular party, they think they are unrepresented, and another alarming trend we have seen in recent years is the emergence of religious extremists, far-right xenophobic movements and radicalization of youths, who feel misunderstood from the communities in which they live. Political propaganda has found its place in social media and information websites used by young people on a daily basis and has become a powerful tool for manipulating the public opinion. Freedom of expression in the European media is endangered and young people are not prepared to analyze the political games. In our view, this is a serious indicator of a problem that jeopardizes European values and democracy. That is how the idea of the project "Political games" came up. The project will try to respond to the educational needs of the young people by providing them tools for better understanding the political trends, to promote tolerance, to stimulate self-reflection and critical thinking. Topics will be discussed to better understand today's "fears" and how the media and politicians are using them. Through simulation and role-playing games, participants will be empowered to make decisions that will help drive their initiative. A network of young people will be set up to discuss and share information on the political and civic situation in their countries; to work for tolerance and unity in diversity, to defend the democratic systems in their country. The objectives of the project are to: provide conditions for dialogue and reflection on intercultural differences, communication, fears, stereotypes and discrimination, to examine the rise of different political trends in the context of economic and other crises, the use of fears and the lack of knowledge, to demonstrate the links between media and politics, their role in today's society, and the need of developing the curiosity and critical thinking of young people to help them search and analyze information on their own, to support them in decision-making and to create youth leadership, to discuss future means of disseminating knowledge that can be used to expand the impact of exchange at local and regional level. We believe that our project and its objectives are in line with the objectives of the Erasmus + program for young people's participation in the democratic life of Europe, active citizenship, international dialogue, creating conditions for political reforms at regional and national level, prevention of radicalization and improving the knowledge, skills and competencies of young people.
