Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing humanity today. Climate change affects every country and can have devastating effects on communities and individuals. A child born today will face unprecedented and life-long health harms from climate change - growing up in a warmer world with risks of food shortages, water scarcity, infectious diseases, and extreme weather conditions - according to major global studies. Children’s health and well-being will be increasingly threatened by polluted air from hydrocarbon combustion, extreme temperatures, and natural hazards, compromising their physical and mental conditions and life expectancy. The planet’s long-term warming trend represents a concrete threat. According to an analysis conducted by NASA, the Earth’s global average surface temperature in 2020 tied with 2016 as the warmest year on record, and the year’s globally averaged temperature is 1.02 °C warmer than the period 1951-1980. Erasmus+ Youth exchange, named R.E.CY.C.L.E.“, took place between 29 April and 07 May 2022 in a very beautiful village of Agros, Cyprus, In this project, 36 participants from 6 countries gathered together for 9 days in order to promote the connection between active citizenship and the environmental protection through selective waste collection systems and waste reuse. This project was based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in the different ways that each person can apply them in their daily life. Through this project, the aim was to bring these objectives closer to the youngest and to provide youth with tools to support them in this mission. In addition, youth acquired a series of tools and knowledge that they can apply both to their daily lives and to their work within their entities and with young people. The needs of the partner organisations and their youth were taken into account when designing this project, therefore the participants acquired competences in order to improve their skills to prepare youngsters to be leaders in their communities in order to raise awareness in climate change and how to implement in their daily lives SDGs. The project designed to offer a concrete and united response to this alarming situation. During the project youth had the opportunity: -to learn more on the consequences of the production and use of plastic, -to think about solutions to reduce consumption, -to carry out real actions, with young people from around Europe -to provide space for promotion of Cultural diversity in Europe and intercultural understanding between youngsters coming from different social, cultural, religious background; -to build knowledge of project participants on Climate Change science with theoretical and practical opportunities to live more environmentally friendly (causes, consequences, impacts on local and global level, eco- friendly living); -to empower participants with the competences to address community environmental needs through campaign; -to encourage participants to further use a social media and youth portals to promote eco-friendly lifestyle and empower them to multiply competencies gained during the Youth Exchange in their local communities by spreading outputs of the project (project video, press releases, photos and etc.); -to promote youth interactions, networking and partnerships; -to improve the attractiveness of rural areas for young people through exchanges on innovative and inspiring practices between participants, including those on youth entrepreneurship, rural-urban linkages, communication nd digitization.
