Objectives

The world is facing a major unprecedented environmental and climate crisis. In response, young people are participating in non-violent protests, campaigns, and other climate actions. They do so as individuals, by joining organizations or forming informal groups. These groups tend to organise one-time events with a specific goal. However, after one such event takes place people often part ways, regardless if it succeeds or not. That's why we wanted to explore what are the reasons why informal groups and/or movements often fail to continue their work after undertaking one-time actions. The main aim of the project is to contribute to the sustainability of the activities and structures of climate youth movements, informal groups, and organisations to ensure young people’s access to participation in environmental policy-making processes. The objectives were: -to support youth workers and informal groups to create a long-term vision and structure for entering the political environment; -to develop competences of youth workers and informal groups of young people needed to advocate campaign, and lobby for environmental and climate policies on a local level; -to support and empower local groups to influence local environmental policies through advocacy, campaigning, and lobbying; -to create a space for exchanging good practices and learning from each other among youth workers and informal groups. Although the whole project has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and therefore quite significant and unexpected changes occurred, we were able to effectively adapt and transform the youth mobilities into an online format. We had to postpone the activities which affected the overall timeline of the project, however, thanks to changing the structure of the international activities and implementing them in the digital space, we were able to meet the main aim of the project as well as its objectives, just in a prolonged time frame. In the end, we implemented online international learning activities based on NFE and experiential learning and empowered a diverse group of young people and youth workers with new competences and skills.
