Objectives

Our aim was to connect young people from different countries and show them how to create something lasting in a self-effective way. The young people learned to develop their own goals and put them into practice. They were to dare to look beyond their own horizons and to use and further develop their skills in the process. All these projects were implemented by the participants in both projects themselves, with the support of the project partners. The aim of the project was for young people to design a public space together in a participatory process. In the process, they learned to plan entrepreneurially and to communicate with contacts in other countries. The aim of the project was to offer young people a space for participation. The implementation of the project achieved that young people from three countries got in touch with each other. They planned a project in Romania and one in Georgia. The communication took place in English. Next, they dealt with the question of where a playground serves its purpose, and for this purpose they again made contact with people from completely different life realities. A close exchange with the young people on site took place on this question before the project. In this way, the German young people got a first impression of the realities that prevail in a disadvantaged village in Romania or Georgia even before the playground was built on site. From Georgia, for example, we heard how insecure the relationship with Russia is. And what uncertainty has prevailed throughout Georgia since the beginning of the Ukraine war. Until shortly before the project, we kept hearing phrases from our local contact like: "Hopefully the project can take place at all. Hopefully you can come to Georgia at all!" Such statements were very impressive for the young people and made them think and discuss. On site, the young people learned how to use handicraft tools. After they had drawn up a plan, they worked in international groups on the playground equipment they had created themselves. They communicated in English as well as with hands and feet to overcome the hurdles of designing together. We worked on site artistically as well as with heavy equipment. In this way, the young people implemented creative ideas and learnt how to implement a plan in a craftsmanlike way. They take these skills with them into their future lives and can use them at work as well as in their private lives. All four fields of key competences were promoted in our project. The young people had to work precisely with specialist knowledge in order to achieve their goals. They repeatedly obtained information which they structured, evaluated and then used to make things run smoothly. And social and individual skills were required on a daily basis, at the latest from the time they travelled to the respective countries. Being dependent on information and the help of people in a foreign country required the young people to remain flexible, open and clear in order to cope independently with situations outside their own comfort zone.
