Objectives

The international youth exchange "Beyond the walls" enabled young people from Belgium, Lithuania and Germany to enter into an exchange and share their personal lifeworld with each other. The main target group was 18 young people who are not currently in school or work, but belong to the NEET target group. Our goal, according to the application, was to give the participants an opportunity to create an insight into their everyday life through digital and artistic offers, while being in exchange with people from other countries. The project goals according to the application were: - Identifying the needs of young people (NEET), - to create an experience of self-efficacy through encounters and to encourage the young people to come to terms with their own situation, - To address the issue of inclusion and what it means to be "outside", - Creating access to and awareness of informal learning, - Intercultural learning and building social skills, - Promoting digital competences (video, photo). Due to the Corona pandemic, the project was significantly delayed. At the time the project was approved, it was not yet known that the building of social competences and the experience of self-efficacy would become even more important. This was clearly in focus, so that the participants could try things out together in the art projects and the topic was freely selectable for them. In the process, they learned about possibilities to express their own emotional world through street art, photo editing, T-shirt design or writing song lyrics, and many were also able to discover new forms of artistic expression for themselves. Another success of the project is that the participants can use the experiences of the encounters for their integration process in the labour market. They were able to further build their personal profile through the increase in competences. They proved to work together in a team, acquired intercultural skills and were able to improve their foreign language skills and break down language barriers. The cooperation between the three partner institutions (KIDS & CO, Le Monde des Possibles, Active Youth) was also strengthened. The experience during the youth exchange showed how important this intercultural exchange is and what opportunities it offers. This includes a change of perspective as well as the gain of new personal experiences for the participants.
