The international youth exchange (IYE) "Learning between worlds" is firmly integrated into the network "Wiesbaden worldwide". Since 2014, we have been regularly conducting IYBs with participants of the Vocational Preparatory Education Measures (BVB). During the return encounter, which is to take place within the framework of "Learning between Worlds", 12 participants each from Germany and Slovenia shall meet. The five-day outward and return meetings were planned in Mainz/Wiesbaden and Ljubljana. This project was meant to introduce educationally disadvantaged young people to international exchange. The project aimed at initially introducing the participants to the European area. The IJB should enable them to get to know a foreign culture and to find their way in it. Since the encounter should haven taken place within the framework of a vocational preparation program and our partner in Slovenia also implements activities for vocational integration, a further focus was on the exploration of different training and work models as well as the discovery of professions, so that the young people can expand their personal vocational orientation across national borders. The experiences with peers in another country should enable the young people to situate their own culture, social and professional situation and to gain possibilities for shaping their own professional future. In addition to personality-building aspects, the participants' social and international competencies were meant to be strengthened. The encounters were intended to promote an understanding of cultural diversity, strengthen the building of tolerance and a sense of solidarity and understanding between young people in similar life situations across national borders.
