In "Open space for youth" we used the structures of twin cities´ cooperation to raise awareness of the added value of youth participation within the involved municipalities and youth organizations. After all, young people face challenges having cross-border relevance on which they themselves want to take an active stance. Our concern was to discuss how the EU Youth Strategy can be applied on the structures of twin cities´ cooperation. Based on a local youth participation project, the redesign of a public square for sports and cultural events in Menzel-Bourguiba, we wanted to test how local and international youth policy/youth work can be beneficially combined. Aim To foster youth participation, active citizenship and solidarity in the frame of Euro-Mediterranean cooperation among twin cities in the field of youth work and local politics Objectives -to sensitize young people and youth workers to the diversity of possible types of participation and expression of young people from different socio-cultural realities of life - to support a positive experience of active citizenship and solidarity among young people in networked local and international cooperation. - to strengthen the young people's self-confidence and their experience of self-efficacy using the example of "transformation of a public space for sports and cultural events". - to promote intercultural learning among youth workers for a better understanding of the social and youth policy backgrounds in the participating twin cities - to strengthen the international cooperation in youth policy among the participating youth workers, local authorities and politics - to improve the quality of local/international youth work in the field of youth participation to promote democracy and strengthen human rights education
