This project aims to counter the current worldwide rise of reactionary, nationalist, racist and anti-feminist forces and the de-democratisation of political systems with the promotion of critical thinking through political education, the teaching of democratic values and the strengthening of the active citizenship of young people from the European Union and from partner countries in the Mediterranean region and Eastern Europe. In line with the EU YOUTH Strategy 2019-2027 which recognizes the active role of young people in shaping the European Union and its member states, young people should be encouraged to play an active part in deciding about the politics and future of the EU and Europe. Here it is important that the peaceful confrontation with diverging political standpoints and points of view is practiced. In view of the challenges that currently have to be overcome at EU and global level and the deep divides that can be felt in our societies, this is a priority for youth education work. It is particularly important to strengthen the values of young people, in particular diversity, respect, solidarity, gender equality, through targeted educational measures and encounters with other young people from the EU and neighbouring countries. This is made possible by a large number and good mix of partner organisations.13 Organisations from 5 programme countries and 6 neighbouring partner countries are actively involved. Both project activities, a training seminar and a youth exchange, promote the intercultural and interreligious exchange of the participating young people and youth workers. Different formats of theatre pedagogical methods and concepts are used and invite the participants to perform their utopia of a peaceful society in scenic play and through the application of theatre pedagogical methods. The overall goal is to strengthen the common values of freedom, tolerance and respect for human rights and to prevent the violent radicalisation of young people. Building on the experiences and contacts of previous youth encounters, it is also the aim to actively involve young people with refugee and migration backgrounds and their communities.
