The youth exchange project "Friendly Match" between Marseille (France), Berlin (Germany) and Tetovo (North Macedonia) has started in 2019. The phase in Berlin was supported by the association Pangera e.V. in cooperation with the partner organizations Une Terre Culturelle in Marseille, LOJA in Tetovo in North Macedonia and SJC Wildwuchs in Berlin, Germany. Two phases in the hybrid format have already taken place in 2020 and 2021. In these, the participants from the three countries met on a national level, but were able to meet the participants from the other countries only in online activities in digital format. In 2022, we were able to hold one phase of the exchange as a face-to-face event in Berlin. Two more phases are planned during 2022 in July in Marseille and in October in Tetovo. The project "Sport without Borders" is carried out with the aim of overcoming national and personal borders. Through sports, young people learn to expand their network and strengthen their own skills and self-confidence through teamwork. We want our project to make this possible by combining the sporting and tri-national aspect with a European dimension, which also results from the special role of Northern Macedonia as a long-time candidate country for the European Union. The development of team spirit is the guiding principle of this project. In sports, a team is a whole, its members support each other and are thus strengthened in their skills and talents. Unlike international tournaments where different countries compete against each other, the "team spirit" in our Franco-German-Macedonian project was multinational and multicultural, thus helping to overcome the competitive spirit that unfortunately very often leads to hostilities. The focus is on fair play and gender in sports, as media sports, which today generate billions of euros in revenue, are unfortunately focused on performance and the male gender. Even today, boys are more likely than girls to be encouraged to participate in a sport to fit the stereotypical image of a strong boy as opposed to a "softer" girl. "Sport without Borders" aims to raise awareness of these latent patterns in our society, followed by their deconstruction, so that they can then be replaced by working together to develop individual skills and talents. In addition to the physical aspect, sport also teaches those who practice it numerous social skills. It not only promotes group cohesion, but above all self-confidence. What could be better than surpassing oneself, not for oneself, but for others, for the group, for the team? All these effects anchored in sport are at the heart of our trinational project.
