Within the large spectrum of global objectives, the energy transition has one of the highest priorities. Through the "Renewable Charge for Entrepreneurship" youth exchange an attempt has been made to contribute to the promotion of this topic among young people from small and rural communities — the main target group of the project. This was achieved thanks to the two key components upon which the project was built, namely renewable energies and social entrepreneurship. By combining these two subjects a complex approach was adopted, pursuing not only to present the potential advantages related to the proliferation of renewable energies but also to stimulate the active participation of young people in these crucial processes by mans of the social entrepreneurship. Thus, the "Renewable Charge for Entrepreneurship" project tends to empower young people enabling them to realise filed-related initiatives beneficial for themselves and for their communities. Consequently, the project also implicates an out of box strategy for improvement of the welfare of the residents of rural communities and give a momentum to the rural development. In this context availability of cheap energy, new employment opportunities along the entire value chain as well as evolution of energy-dependant sectors is noteworthy. Hereby within the scope of the project the participants were equipped with a range of valuable competencies related both to renewables and entrepreneurship. Specifically, a comprehensive knowledge and skills were provided on different renewable technologies – solar, wind, hydro and others. In this regard, the pure technical information (working principles, types, main components, etc.) was coupled with detailed analysis of environmental (e.g. carbon footprint, life cycle assessment) and socio-economic (stakeholders, electricity prices and feed-in tariffs, payback time, LCoE, etc.) aspects of renewable energies. The global targets as well as EU policies and objectives in the field of renewable energies were visited to shape a conclusive understanding of the current trends. Substantial capacities were also created also in the domain of social entrepreneurship with a focus on business models and step-by-step planning, project management, funding, etc. Overall, the main objectives of the project were as follows: Raise of participants awareness about field of renewable energies and their main characteristics; Encourage adoption of renewables through formulation and interpretation of environmental and socioeconomic benefits of their introduction in communities; Provision of essential competences for stepwise implementation of a small scale entrepreneurial initiative; Facilitate development of successful renewable energy projects with a spotlight on community needs by revealing existing opportunities & challenges and demonstrating relevant case studies; Presentation of Erasmus+ Programme and importance of non-formal learning projects. Introduction to various European instruments, funds and EU programmes regarding renewable energies, rural development and entrepreneurship; Establishment of a favourable ground for peer learning and active intercultural exchange among project participants. Furthermore, the cultural exchange was another key component of the project. The young people from different national teams have bought a wide diversity of traditions, religions, orientations, values and visions with them. They had a chance to communicate and share with their peers not only during the many planned cultural activities but also in their everyday life. Thanks to the dynamic interactions, it became possible to open doors to the multiculturalism and help the participants to establish new friendly relations with the representatives of other nationalities. Within the scopes of the "Renewable Charge for Entrepreneurship" project several educational trips were considered in order to ensure a first-hand experience for participants and to solidify the obtained knowledge. The Throughout the youth exchange, activities were organised with the help of informal and non-formal teaching methods and instruments which made the process more interactive, the content easily accessible allowing to fully engage the participants.
