Objectives

The project aims to empower young people in shelters and other marginalised categories in Germany, Romania and Bosnia and Herzegovina to become advocates and promoters of diversity, inclusion and democratic values. In today's Europe, where the socio-political climate is shifting towards Euroscepticism and nationalism and less openness to the voice of minority groups, young people are exposed to manipulation and populism. The young people targeted by our project have a variety of psychological traumas, mental health problems and socio-cultural factors that make them vulnerable to exclusion. Moreover, their social status puts them at risk of becoming targets of hate speech, globalisation, dilution of national identity, anti-immigration, hate speech and Euroscepticism. Through exchange visits to participating countries, we want to inform them about the possibilities to participate in today's decision-making processes so that they can become "architects of their own lives" (EU Youth Strategy, 2019-2027) and not the product of manipulation. Participants will also learn how to use social media to express themselves and recognise populist or discriminatory messages. The project will be conducted as an online hybrid event. During the first meeting, the young people will acquire practical knowledge about participation. Through different workshops, they will acquire knowledge, skills, competences and self-confidence that can lead to better protection for them and strengthen their civic engagement and active citizenship. Ultimately, these achievements can further contribute to taking responsibility and promoting good governance. During the second meeting, young people will learn how to use the tools available to them to express their opinions and become producers of information rather than passive consumers. A main focus will be on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, blogging, vlogging, etc.) which are crucial for forming groups and influencing conversations. This activity will enable them to learn how to reflect and question messages and speeches and further influence decision-making processes that affect their lives at different levels (e.g. school, care institution, community or national level, etc.).
