Objectives

Sustainable development seeks to meet the needs of present and future generations and ensure better quality of life for everyone. As a value based organization, the European Union committed itself strongly to the principles of sustainable development through mainstreaming it in all its policies and actions. It has also taken the leadership in fighting against the climate change and its negative repercussions. Despite the progress in implementing the sustainable development goals and ratification of the Paris Agreement, unsustainable trends continue affecting many areas of everyday life and strong action is required to cope with recent challenges. Among those challenges, facing the European societies are climate change, ageing societies, increased poverty especially among marginalized immigrant youth. Moreover, the mainstreaming of sustainable development merely in the policies is not enough and there is a need to transmit its principles to the wider society, specifically targeting youth. Young people are prone to absorb changes and hence, by introducing them with the dimensions of sustainable development, raising awareness of unsustainable trends and dangers and help them critically assess their daily choices, we can empower them to act as changemakers and advocate the concept of sustainable development locally. By implementing this youth exchange, the project strives to accomplish the following objectives: -to raise participants' understanding and knowledge on the concept of sustainable development and its environmental, economic, social and cultural dimensions, -to facilitate the process of exchanging personal experiences through peer to peer learning and country realities on sustainable development among young people, -to empower young people to participate actively in civil society to foster sustainable development, -to encourage participants to live sustainably in their everyday life through critically reflecting on their daily choices and consumption habits, -to foster intercultural learning and dialogue among participants, -to increase participants' knowledge of Erasmus+ programme and introduce its funding opportunities -to be used for promoting sustainable development locally and internationally. By taking part in this project, young people will gain profound knowledge on the topic, become aware of their own consumption habits, learn from each other and come up with creative and innovative approaches on how to reduce their ecological footprint and live sustainable. The foregoing activities will contribute to reaching the specific objective of Erasmus+ programme, as the project will make participants conscious of current unsustainable trends, stimulate their active citizenship and participation, as well as increase their tolerance towards cultural differences. Young people will be encouraged to take the initiative in searching for solutions to the identified problems and work together on future projects.
