The project idea arose from the need to open a fruitful debate on the topic of representation of gender and the gender gap in the mass media industry among young people to reflect on the negative consequences on their everyday life and for society. In the last years, indeed, the issue of the gender gap in the mass media industry has become increasingly relevant in the European Union agenda. In 2015 the world's monitoring project of news media showed that, after 20 years of research, the mass media industry is still mostly male dominated, and the sexism and the gender gap in media are unsolved issues in all countries. The insufficient presence of women in the mass media industry influences their depictions and confirms their low presence in politics, economy and government news. Through this Youth Exchange we wanted to support European policies, values and to reflect on the challenge of gender inequality related to all countries. Furthermore, we wanted to identify possible causes and solutions to meet the same needs. Moreover, carrying out GEM was and still is extremely relevant in a period in which (social) media can be used to support movements against gender discrimination and violence, such as #ΜeToo, and to promote gender-equal treatment at work. During the mobility, participants had the opportunity to explore the following and more related topics: Why the gender gap persists in mass media; How it influences the role of women and men in our society; How media's messages impact on the youth behaviors and relations with other peers and in their future decisions for studies and work position. The objectives of this project were: To promote gender equality among young people; To prevent the use of media as a tool to perpetuate dangerous behaviors such as hate-speech and cyber-harassment among youngsters, encouraging them to use social networks for promoting equality and social inclusion; To encourage sharing information and opinions on common problems and needs; To understand how images and language in mass media can damage a group; To understand how mass media influence the behavior and opinion of society toward a group; To understand how mass media impacts the perception of young people on their capabilities and influence their decision; To increase youngsters skills in working as a team, to discuss, to find solutions and overall communicating in a foreign language;
