Objectives

“HEROES LGTBI-E+” is a trilateral youth exchange that has been carried out in Santa Lucía de Tirajana, in Gran Canaria, in the month of August 2022. Our town is located in a rural area where the older population lives with the youth, where traditions run deep and often collide with the development of new social and cultural norms. Young people from Spain, Moldova and Italy have participated in the project, with the main objective of promoting the values of freedom promoted by the EU through its E+ program and working to eradicate the stigmatization of the LGTBI collective. In addition, in a transversal way, we learned about the opportunities of the European "Erasmus +" program and we promoted its benefits, opportunities and potential among the young people of the island of Gran Canaria. The project arose on the occasion of the celebration, on May 17, of the International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia. In recent times, there has been an increase in attacks against the LGTBI collective, which, together with the rise of the extreme right in many countries of the European Union, led us to consider promoting initiatives within the framework of the program that promote tolerance and respect. Due to the war between Ukraine and Russia, we were forced to change partners due to the complex situation, with which, and thanks to common partners, Moldova, which has a reality that fits this type of project, entered as partner. Later, closing the logistics of the project and resuming it after the pandemic, our Belgian partner found the reality of low youth participation in their environment. So we had to find another partner that could meet the same objectives as the Belgians, and that was the Italian partner. This change of partners, countries and dates due to the pandemic that was delayed from May 2020 to August 2022, meant that some of the activities had to be adapted, always trying to meet the proposed objectives. The importance of organizing this project in the center of our municipality of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, is because we must continue working to eradicate cultural, social, identity stereotypes, etc. As in all the towns in Spain, the average age of the residents who live in Santa Lucía is 55 years, as the population ages and there are fewer and fewer young people who remain in the town. The young people who live in it, live with families that maintain very deep traditions, with a great religious load, which favors small pockets of intolerance, which does not allow opening the minds of young people from Saint Lucia. Objectives and needs: - Promote the values of the European Union of coexistence, fraternity, without taking into account sexual identity or preferences. - Bring together the points and values in common that we have with the participants: personal freedom, respect, solidarity, empathy. -Become aware of and sensitize our diversity and tolerance -Influence the local population. -Share experiences, activities and proposals for improvement in rural environments. -Learning between different entities with common links Link with Erasmus + objectives: - Coinciding with the celebration of International Youth Day, we celebrate actions with local society, in order to promote the aforementioned values. - At the end of the project, the participants have improved the level of skills and basic abilities, especially in relational, social, cultural and values and respect fields. - With the mixture of young people from 3 countries and with a methodology of "being protagonists", we managed to promote active citizenship, intercultural dialogue and social integration. - Use the eradication of hatred for sexual identity and tolerance, through the reinforcement of personal ties, focused on the field of youth. We value and make them value participation in these types of initiatives through public recognition of non-formal and informal learning, especially through YouthPass. - We continue to promote the international dimension of youth activities, developing them mainly in a small town of 600 inhabitants in the municipality of Santa Lucía. In addition, this exchange has offered young people to develop their skills, gain intercultural and social experiences, new forms of knowledge and citizen coexistence. It has been very important the revulsive that it represents for the young people of the participating town to share for a week with young people from different countries and exchange their views and concerns. -Improved learning outcomes -Increased respect and tolerance -Increased sense of initiative, self-esteem and solidarity -Improvement of English skills -Promotion of their active participation in society -Achievement of a greater feeling of belonging to Europe and its values
