In the year 2000, the European Parliament, the European Commission and the Council proclaimed the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU. This document establishes the fundamental rights and freedoms recognized by the European Union. With the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty in 2009, the rights, freedoms and principles specified in the Charter became legally binding on the EU and on Member States when they apply EU law. The EU action plan for human rights and democracy covers the period 2015-2019, and aims to strengthen the implementation of the European Union's human rights policy in all activities. It focuses, in particular, on training local institutions and civil society organizations. Its guiding principles focus on early detection, prevention and mediation in conflicts. The Union regularly includes human rights issues in its political dialogue with third countries and regional organisations. It also maintains dialogues and consultations on human rights with more than forty countries. To support and disseminate the values of Europe for Human Rights, taking advantage of the opportunity offered by the European Erasmus+ program, we focus our project on: 1. Raise awareness of the indivisibility, interdependence and universality of human rights; 2. Improve understanding of social rights and social policies; 3. Critically examine the concrete situation of social rights and social policies; 4. Reflect on the role of young people in the design and development of social policies; 5. Encourage participants to design specific actions to promote social rights. The main objective of this exchange is to deepen and seek possible solutions to: discrimination, access to justice, racism and xenophobia, economic and gender equality and social inclusion. With this project we have fostered an intersectoral approach to raise the awareness of young people when facing exclusion in fields such as education, employment and social inclusion. We promote intercultural awareness and fight against prejudice. We support the information and education of young people regarding their rights, based on the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. We make participants aware of the enjoyment of such rights which, in turn, entails having responsibilities and duties both with respect to others and to the human community and future generations.
