According to the report of the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA), drug use has increased at a terrifying rate since the 1990s and nearly a quarter of European adults have used drugs at least once. In 2017, the number of drugs used reached 255 million. This number constitutes 9% of the world population. Globally, it was estimated that there were around 166,000 direct drug-related deaths in 2017.https://www.jsad.com/doi/full/10.15288/jsads.2019.s18.139. When we look at today, we can see that the age of drug use increased at a younger age. This level of addiction, which affects the whole world, gets worse every day and in some countries, it goes down to the school level. In 2015, the European School Survey Project on Alcohol and Other Drugs (ESPAD) conducted data collection since its inception in 1995. This latest survey collected comparable data on substance use among students aged 15-16 from 35 European countries, including 23 EU Member States and Norway. Among the students in these 24 countries, on average, 18% reported having used drugs at least once (lifetime prevalence), with the highest levels reported by Spain (23.4%) and France (31%), and 8% reported use in the last 30 days. The use of illicit drugs other than cannabis was much lower, with an overall lifetime prevalence of 5%. An estimated 18.9 million young adults (ages 15-34) used drugs in the last year.http://www.emcdda.europa.eu/system/files/publications/8585/20181816_TDAT18001ENN_PDF.pdf Drug use was recognized as one of the main contributors to the global burden of disease. The chronic and acute health problems were associated with illicit drug use, and these were exacerbated by various factors, including the properties of the substances, the route of administration, individual vulnerability, and the social context in which drugs were used. Chronic problems include drug dependence and infectious diseases, while there were a variety of acute harms, with drug overdose being the best documented of these. Long period of isolation related to COVID-19 restrictions has aggravated drug use as well and intensified game addiction. In addition to the fact that drug use causes deaths, it also results in a tragic change in the quality of life of the social structure of the individual and society, increasing crime and infectious diseases. Low level of education, unemployment, loans, social exclusion, identity search, lack of activity and insufficient socialization were among the main factors that trigger drug use. One of the reasons we frequently find ourselves in the drug reality was lack of activity and insufficient socialization. The rate of drug use among young people was higher than that of those who participate in healthy recreational activities such as going to sports centres or doing leisure and free time activities. The project used the Zumba dance as an engine to facilitate the social interaction of young people from different countries Europeans through dance and aims to prevent drug use by supporting socialization, healthy life and sports activities. Zumba was used as an effective solution to socialize, learn from other cultures by dancing, make new friends, provide inclusion, increase self-esteem and raise awareness about drug use. The project addressed the elements that cause drug use, how it attracts young people who have social difficulties in society and those prone to consumption to be a component of the society. It also addressed the impact of drug abuse and addiction prevention, contributing to the socialization and social inclusion, the consequences of drug use and its negative impact on the environment, relationship between inactivity and drug addiction and the impact plus consequences of drug use on each young man taken individually. In addition, the project responded to many needs such as active participation in activities and the development of sports competition, building a team spirit, discovering music, theatre and dance, using them as awareness tools for a healthy life, building structures and social bonds solids. With this project we wanted to call for community awareness, breaking prejudices against different cultures, for awareness of European citizenship and human rights. Our project was related to youth, inclusion-equity, health and well-being, which were considered among the topics that were prioritized in the Erasmus guide.
