Why a youth exchange about communism? We posed this question in the specific FB group created during the phase of planning in which we have brought together the majority of future participants: the responses agreed that communism was one of the protagonists (for better or for worse) of the European recent past, in the countries of former Warsaw Pact but also in countries such as Italy, which saw the development of the largest West European Communist party. Despite today on our continent no longer exist countries communist-style, Europe continues to reckon with an ideology that seems however still not extinguished: just to remember, for example the results of recent elections (2016) in countries such as Bulgaria, Moldova or what it happened in Greece, and moreover, in Italy the "old" communist party has returned. Approach the communism today means analyzing the past to better understand the current society and try to build a better future. One of the biggest problems in our local communities is the lack of interest of the young for active citizenship (include social/political life). They do not feel part of a society, they are marginalized, disillusioned and without any kind of motivation. This apathy is a big problem and for this reason, we want to fight it by using a new (but of great interest) theme that can involve young, awaken them and also develop strong critical thinking to them. The youth exchange will lead participants to acquire a better knowledge of our recent past through analysis, debates, L.A.R.P. (Live Action Role-Playing), storytelling and exchange of ideas that will serve to carry participants not only in a national dimension but even in the European one. Through the activities proposed, we will try to develop and increase in the participants their analytical skills, their critical thinking, and their cultural heritage, thanks to the discovery of new cultures, new points of view, new information, habits and lifestyles through the thematic proposed here: understand the complexity, the different shades, the historical overview, the relationship with today's society, the discernment of stereotypes from the facts, the historical errors and its legacy in the European future. All this will be done through the use of the dialectic as a proactive tool, transmitting to the participants the importance of non-formal learning and increasing the sense of self-empowerment and self-esteem. With this exchange, we would like to offer to participants a 360° experience, starting from the themes addressed and come to discover the place of welcome and its people, through the food, the history, the traditions and folklore of the nations involved. Lastly, activities like "Active citizenship through Communism in Erasmus?" (through the methodology "world cafe") will serve to participants and partners involved, to develop new ideas and new proposals for future collaboration (even in this topic), encouraging them to take an active part in this program and, why not, maybe give input to professional opportunities. In many activities, we will leave the participants wide freedom of movement and this will serve to increase their sense of empowerment, emancipation, and self-esteem. The last day the main activity will be focussed on the creation of a video for the dissemination phase where participants will manage it through interviews, photos, and captions.
