Day by day we must face political decisions that we either do not understand or do not realise its importance. These decision-making processes are appearing on local, on national and on worldwide level changing our life meaningfully in every second. However, the topic of these processes can be diverse, such as economy, education, health care or human rights, all of them are connected directly or indirectly to all generations including youth. The planning of this youth exchange started back in 2019 during a conversation in a Youth Exchange in Spain. The idea of this youth exchange came from the experience of misunderstanding the political decision-making processes, the feeling of not being heard as a young person and the lack of communication about youth policies among the youth. Since than young people, the initiators of this project kept working on the realisation of this project plan and finally at the winter of 2022 they made it happen. There are numberless decision which are being made during our lives in which we do not dare to give our opinions because we just simply do not understand the decision-making mechanism behind them. These are the things that the FORWARD youth exchange were willing to change with active participation of the young generation. Therefore FORWARD youth exchange was focusing on developing young people’s skills and shaping their attitude especially those connected with active citizenship, social sensibility and communication. We seeked to improve the level of key competences and skills of young people with a special attention to the communication and social and civic skills. We believe that with this intercultural project we could contribute to the development of the partner organisations as well as the European dimension of youth work with promoting the importance of international co-operations in the youth field and the possibilities of mobility activities offered by the Erasmus+ Programme. After participating in this Youth Exchange, our participants are able to recognise the meaning of political decisions and form their own opinions in topics such as human rights, social problems or cooperation in a structured way. They know that active citizenship is an important factor in their lives in all the state forms and that youth participation and involvement can shape their communities. The project activities have been organised following these objectives: - to understand the meaning of decision-making process and active citizenship - to cooperate – to find the best way for working together; - to provide opportunity to learn about the law-making process; - to understand the importance of human and fundamental rights and diversity in our societies; - to provide opportunity for young people to experience intercultural learning; - to understand young people’s personal role in the creation of democratic world by respecting values as tolerance, equity, freedom and diversity; - to disseminate information on decision-making process, critical thinking and structured dialogues in their local reality. FORWARD was built upon non-formal educational activities with which the participants had the chance to understand the concept of active citizenship and its core values, to get an insight into the institutions and decision-making mechanisms in their countries and to explore young people's role inside it. The project put a special focus on "PARTICIPATION" with the goal to foster understanding about its importance and encourage youth to raise awareness by taking action on the topic. FORWARD targeted young people between the age of 18 and 25 from countries where the form of governance and the political situation is different. Throughout the project participants had to cope with situations in that way that it is not only good for their own states but also for a common sense, in other words they have to cooperate with each other. The project consisted of session led by the group leaders and the participants themselves on politics, political decision-making processes, legislation, human and fundamental rights, economical and financial issues, hate speech and strategy planning. We wanted to put emphasis on improving the communication, cultural, social and civic skills of the participants during this mobility project by creating a safe environment where young participants can share their opinions, experiences and ideas. Through the non-formal education tools we used the participants could improve in fields like active citizenship, political decision-making processes, debating, reasoning and cooperation.
