Objectives

The overall aim of the project was to increase the quality of youth work in Europe by piloting a holistic training for trainers project, where youth work professionals can go beyond the basic knowledge, skills, and attitudes of non-formal education, level up their work to become youth professionals able to support a wide variety of young people from local to international level, especially in the field of Erasmus +. What we wanted to achieve was a 4-step process to develop a new generation of youth workers capable to provide educational opportunities for young people, thus reinforcing, and strengthening the capacities of the involved organizations. The idea came to life through 15 years of experiences of the professionals involved in the project creation - the partnership consisted of youth organizations active both in volunteering, fieldwork with young people, and international projects through Erasmus + and ESC. Although there are many opportunities out there that aim to develop a basic, common understanding of non-formal education and its main methodologies and frameworks (experiential learning, Kolb-cycle, Tuckman's group dynamics, intercultural learning, etc.), there often are missing links between all of the models and methodologies available out there. We wanted to bring a holistic approach in several senses: combining self-reflection and personal development with professional development and growth, combining innovative, new methodologies (such as embodiment, design thinking, learning through submersion, neuro-linguistic programming, etc.) with the classics, and allowing our target group of youth professional to elevate their competences all together. Another aspect of our holistic approach is finding connections and application possibilities for formal educational aspects and informal learning in the mix with non-formal education. This interconnection of methodologies enables trainers to diversify their toolkits and approaches to maximize learning opportunities for a wide variety of target groups. There was a clear need from the partnership for a new generation of youth professionals, who are motivated to cater to the emerging new needs of participants. Objectives of the project were: - to improve youth workers' (working with groups) and trainers' on the youth field key competences, skills; - to foster updates, improvements, and innovation of nonformal education in youth work; - to support having a greater understanding of interconnections between different elements of non-formal education; - to provide a holistic approach to youth workers and trainers; - to provide tools and options to define their own styles with their strengths and weaknesses; - to support the embodiment of the gained knowledge; - to increase the motivation of trainers and youth workers; - to create mobilities of professionals in youth work and Erasmus+ cooperations.
