Objectives

Youth exchange "Stories from a Treasure Chest” is aimed at celebrating cultural diversity and richness through exploration and exchange of traditions. Traditions provide great opportunity to bridge and learn about different cultures in a friendly way. They are a simple tool for communicating and introducing someone’s identity to the world. They reflect and shape what communities’ value and what do they believe in, and in its core, they are always aimed at bringing people together. In most cases, traditions are not that different, there is a certain level of familiarity and resemblance between various traditions, even when they are unknown to us. Through this exchange and peer - to -peer experiential learning, we will develop young people’s intercultural competences, better understanding of their own culture and identity, strengthening values such as tolerance, friendship, mutual understanding, diversity and dialogue. This approach will also support development of young people’s creativity, curiosity, empathy and compassion, and openness for inter-generational cooperation. By engaging young people in this immersive year long experience, we will empower them to become active members in their local communities, which will in the long run support the development of new projects, initiatives and activities on local, national and international level. Taking those into account, we have defined the following project objectives: - Creating space for open and meaningful dialogue between young people in the spirit of common humanistic values - Offering an opportunity for young people’s identities to be visible, valued and recognised - Exploring how can we use traditions to overcome differences between cultures - Understanding how traditions can foster and support inter-generational cooperation - Cultural promotion of countries in the form of music, dance, food, craft and sports - Fostering respect for the culture, languages, history and traditions of different than ours - Encouraging young people to become actively involved in the social life of their countries - Empowering young people to deliver tradition-based workshops in their local communities
