Oikos is a training programme for young and emerging theatre artists who are learning to use theatre as a tool for social change. It brings together 39 participants in Athens, Greece, to train in methods of making socially engaged theatre. Participants will learn how to: - use drama methods to critically analyse the world around them - explore their own opinions and ideas using theatre exercises - work together to research an area of common concern - devise a performance that expresses their opinuions and proposes solutions to the issue. Then they will explore various ways to engage policy makers with their performance. They will hear about methods used by experienced political theatre makers. They will suggest their own ways to present their work, in council chanbers, at conferences, in parliaments, and in other fileds where the audience is composed of influential decision makers. The training uses a mix of peer-learning, practical demonstrations, collaborative creation, discussion and reflection to share techniques, and to pass on elements of good practice to the 18 to 25 year old participants. We hope that each participant will return to their host organization and community better equipped to develop their own socially engaged theatre practice. Oikos will create a video of the project which will be available on a number of platforms, including the partners' websites. There will also be a blog detailing a number of the activities, games and exercises used in the training. The training is shared between the partners, each of whom are organisations active in the field of youth theatre in Europe. It a project coordinated by Crooked House Theatre Company in Ireland.
