Objectives

"You can discover more about a person in a hour of play than a year of conversation" Plato a Greek Philosopher. This project is an initiative of young people from both Georgia and Ireland, their idea was supported by their parents of our Youth Club committee made up 15 parents and all our volunteers/youthworkers to promote board games activities to promote EU active citizenship; cognitive/personal development, critical thinking, soft skills, concentration, diversity and intercultural dialogue; which is in alignment with European Education and Training 2020, Erasmus+ objectives and the EU Youth strategy Policies 2020. Parents of youth stated " learning to play board games helps their children develop soft skills, social, communication skills and reduce time spend alone on internet to connect with loved one: one family and real friends" The young people involved in developing this project include those with fewer opportunities, financial difficulties, special needs, mental health difficulties, refugees, those living in isolated & disadvantaged rural areas among others. The specific objectives are: - Promote laughter and soft skill among young people through games. -Teach Georgian how to play Hurling, Gaelic and Camogie - Promote tolerance, and Intercultural Dialogue - Increase their awareness of social issues and inclusion though board games(Monopoly, Ludo,Chess, Dixit, risk, Qwirkle, Cluedo, scrabble etc...) - Increase the social skills of the participants, their critical thinking, self-esteem, and decision-making skills. - Develop team-working skills through indoor and oudoor as a language for integration -Actively take part in social issues of their local communities Because of the difficulty in getting visa's the group decided to host the exchange in Georgia. Georgians are not that familiar with Irish culture, so this is a good opportunity to get acquainted with this culture during a real interaction with this culture holders. Most of the youngsters from Ireland who will take part in this project never had the opportunity to travel abroad and from the Georgian side, they had never had the opportunity to take part in international projects and communicate with someone from another cultural background. The overall aim of the exchange is that both youth group could experience each other culture, language and other customs (in a non formal way), play as well as promoting the social skills necessary for a good relationship between participants, making it fruitful, decisive and important for their future, both professional (for the opportunity to learn another language, other possibilities, the option to acquire contacts that may be useful to them in experience future, etc.) and personal (meeting other people who otherwise could not have known and to discover new board games that otherwise would not know) through board games and outdoor activities. The project will be a 8 days Youth Exchange and will take place from 12-17 April 2020 at 116 Excess Hotel , Kobuleti, Georgia, which is a good place for creating a comfortable place for the youngsters to play board games at the Hotel.
