Objectives

Studies done in several countries across Europe highlight the fact that, in the last decade, the most prevalent disability in children is autism spectrum disorders. Autism spectrum disorders are not a disease or damage, but they represent a stable condition of the person, which is present and will persist throughout the course of life. What can be done to support people with autism is to help them increase their autonomy and raise awareness of those who share space and time with them. This will improve social interactions, integration, relationships, autonomy and the achievement of a satisfactory quality of life. The main objective of the project was to improve the skills of young people and operators who work with autistic young people, in order to develop their social and psychomotor skills. The specific objectives for youth workers were: 1. increase the ability to help children with mild autism to acquire self-care skills through physical activities; 2. demonstrate to youth educators what are the barriers of children with cognitive disabilities and autism in the ability to play, socialize and communicate, then show how to overcome them through sport; 3. disseminate good practices in partner countries. The objectives of the youth exchange were: 1. raise awareness among young people about the problems of autism and cognitive disability; 2. show young people that autistic children and youngsters can be successful and have a social and independent life; 3. increase the motivation of young people to work with these subjects by promoting their social integration.
