Objectives

We want to make a change by empowering disadvantaged women and by providing them an exchange with people who still carry out prejudices. So, the main goals of the project were to enhance social responsibility and community life; to end women discrimination inside Roma community by working both on young men and young women; to give more knowledge to the youngsters in order to fight prejudices in general; to bring together Roma youngsters from different contexts in the same place in order to let them share their experiences and have a fruitful exchange; to improve their relational and emotional skills; to give them a chance to move and explore other European countries since they come from disadvantages social contexts; to give them the chance to work in a team and to make them develop this competence. Many Roma women we worked with chose not to early marry (as it often happens in Roma communities). That is way the Erasmus+ project was a even greater opportunity for them and it was a way to improve their ideas of social responsibility and social life according to European ideas. Also, it really improved their mobility through Europe and it was a chance they do not usually have, so it strengthened bounds and connections among Roma community in Europe and built a strong sense of belonging to the same country (which is Europe, in this case) and not just to their Roma community. Furthermore, the project wanted to stop the prejudices against women and this is a very strong point of European Union, which fights for every human rights, women's rights included. Moreover, it was strictly related to the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women. We were mainly seeking to address the need of young Roma women to have different opportunities in their life (on a social level) and to have more freedom their everyday life inside the Roma community.
