Objectives

The objectives we set for our project was to work and gain practical knowledge on these three topics: Personal Growth, Conflict Resolution and Community Living. The question that inspired us was: How could we/I design our/my life to feel satisfied in relation to myself (personal growth), resolving what keeps us apart (conflict resolution) and living together in a sustainable way (community living)? We wanted to gather young people and answer these questions through an intensive experience of community living and working with various tools that help us deal with these questions. Our aim was to open the doors of ecovillages to young people with fewer opportunities, social obstacles, financial obstacles or discriminated youth in order to contribute so that all youth have equal opportunities to sustainable projects. By this project, we wanted to encourage young people to build their own communities or join existing ones as a way to overcome personal problems and as a way to a more sustainable lifestyle, an important objective of the EU right now. We strongly believe that eco communities can serve as an example to follow for young people and that experiential learning is one of the ways that they get familiar with them.Already GEN Europe is collaborating closely with EU in order to establish a link between EU’s sustainability objectives and GEN Europe objectives. We feel part of this collaboration. We are young people who take the initiative to bridge this gap between EU’s sustainability goals and ecovillages practices. Our objectives are part of the bigger objectives of the network Yes2Sustainability, which works on this topic. More specifically, the bigger objectives of Yes2Sustanability are: 1)Sustainability:To connect young people to ecovillages & sustainable initiatives where they can discover alternative low-impact lifestyles and find inspiration to align their personal choices with their values and the planet’s needs. 2)Empowerment: To empower young people to find their inner strength, take responsibility, take action and be part of the change that they want to see in the world. 3)Non-Formal Learning: To create opportunities for young people to grow personally and to explore holistically sustainability in its 4 dimensions (social, ecological, economical, cultural) through transformative and experiential learning. 4) Community Building: To connect young people so that they can exchange practices and ideas, discover diversity, feel part of an international & inclusive community and share a sense of belonging.
