This year we have celebrate our 5th year of activities in Beyond Borders, we identified our priorities, interests and topics, we reflected on growing our skills, capacities and understood that our motivation has never decreased, but has instead grown bigger. This project is one of the results of the flow of our work. We have always focused and worked to achieve strong results and impact, always considering the interests of all people that have been involved: participants, partners, our community, us. The topics that we would like to address in this project are Soft skills development and Human Rights. How we can connect these two (seemingly) distant topics? Through the educational methodology of educational games, creativity and innovative methodology. Thus, we decided to develop a training that would equip youth workers to foster soft skills of youth they work with through Portable Educational Quest games (PEQ). Quest games involve a team of people working together in order to fulfill challenging mental, logical, at times physical tasks together under a specific time limit. Our focus will be given on effective communication, teamwork, creative thinking and problem-solving is increasing. Soft skills development can be effectively done through experiential learning with experience being a base for reflection, which is leading to development. Soft skills are developed through real life work and often developed through gaming techniques and methods. To develop this Training we asked the support of the organization Shokking Group Estonia, as they are expert on PEQ games and of KOM018 as they are expert on Education of Human Rights, like us. We would like to connect these topics and develop an innovative approach that will be useful for youth workers and partner organizations. The format so popular in the entertainment field gives a great foundation to test young people’s team work, effective communication, problem-solving, creative thinking skills. With this training course we would like to discover connection of quest games with soft skills development. The programme will support youth workers/leaders to get inspired and create new quests that can be used when working with youth and enrich their own toolbox. When performing a need assessment, we got to know from partners that youth workers and their members often lack: -Resources to start with innovative methods, since literature is limited; -A structural approach to creating innovative educational content; -Personal experience in testing various innovative educational content. The project aims to provide youth workers & youth leader with tools, frameworks and space to create and playtest PEQ games on topics of the defence of Human Rights, and at the same time that foster soft skill development in young people. Objectives: -Exchange practices and methods of soft skill development through youth organizational activities -Introduce the concept of PEQ as a methodology for developing soft skills of young people -Equip participants with tools and frameworks for developing educational PEQ games -Train participants in debriefing educational game activities and fostering self-assessment in young people -Provide space for designing and testing educational portable and escape quests -Create a set of educational PEQ games that foster soft skill development in young people -Empower youth workers/youth leaders to use PEQ games while working with youth With this training we are seeking to both develop competences of youth workers/leaders as well as increase the capacity of organizations to work with educational escape. The dissemination of the project is also aimed to reach target groups of young people. The TC is linked to the overall aim of Erasmus+ KA1 to foster quality improvements in youth work through developing educational material & making it available. The TC is designed to equip participants with tools that can be used in daily work with young people and the learning outcomes of this training programme are foreseen to be disseminated in the youth field through the use of methods, sharing the approach and project results. The TC satisfies the needs of youth workers/youth leaders to gain skills of designing and utilizing innovative methodology, create new material that is possible to adapt and use while working with the topic of employability, as well as feel confident with applying such methodology. During the last few months, we have conducted a need analysis based on a questionnaire, as well as on more qualitative interview methods among youth workers in participating organizations and among participants in several training courses. We identified the need for development of innovative approaches in youth work in order to reach their target groups better and to utilize these tools with work with vulnerable and at-risk youth. Choosing soft skills development as the topic mostly reflects the needs of local-specific target groups of participating organizations.
