Objectives

The project ''Smart Steps for Conflict Resolution" is a shared idea which came as a result of months analysis with relevant to the youth field stakeholders, project managers' reflections, interviews from our youth workers (hereafter yw) and youths and analysis of results and impact from other TC under YiA and E+. The needs and issues: Partners from Italy Cyprus, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, Czech Republic, Spain, Republic of North Macedonia and Malta have many YW (with fewer opportunities) who work daily with youths from different sociopolitical and ethnic backgrounds. They often mention interest to join an international activity/training to enhance their capacity and competences on working more efficiently with their youths who are involved or are present in conflict situations within their area. Especially with the immigration and refugees n EU we observe that the work of our YW became more stressful and less efficient because they struggle with not familiar to their expertise situations. They came across unexpected issues and situations such as how to: -respond effectively in diversity when dealing with multicultural group; -support cooperation between youths when they come from different societies and cultures; and most important, -prevent, resolve and manage conflicts between youths either from same or different background. The problem: The current project was important and unique from others because we aimed to: a)Train our yw to be more competent to face issues of conflict and anger management that happen in the NGOs and communities. Sometimes these issues are connected to acts of racism and stereotypes due to multicultural settings. Thus, they referred to their personal and professional lack of skills and innovating methods to approach youngsters in order to promote intercultural dialogue and cooperation. b)Yw recognized that some of their youngsters are not very cooperative with them and expressed the need to be trained on how to use more attractive and effective methods. c)Many yw from partners NGOs had fewer opportunities (economical, cultural, social, health) who lack of often opportunities for developing their approach on who to motivate youngsters to be active citizens for their community welfare, and combat together any type of conflicts, xenophobia and discrimination. Connection to E+ Priorities: a) influenced daily work of yw when working with young people from diverse groups by enhancing their ability to approach and motivate them to increase their social and critical competence. b) it was designed for supporting mainly yw with fewer opportunities c)it promoted intercultural dialogue and respecting of diversity d)it gave special attention how to train yw into multipliers of basic fundamental issues for solidarity and thus, through this originally 18 months project, but actually a much longer period, due to Covid pandemic, (9 days TC with 28 pax, 2 trainers are included, in Formia 17- 26.04.22) we proposed, shared and promoted ideas and solutions to the identified problem. Our trainers: -implemented tools and methods basically from NFL (like simulations, mediation and active listening as methods, outdoor activities, debriefing, case studies, Role Plays, Theater based sessions, reflection) -trained yw: *to manage diverse groups *recognize stages of conflicts *prevent and solve cases of conflicts through nf approaches *to use Active listening, mediation, Advocacy, Negotiation as methods for conflict management -promoted visibility and disseminate along with all partner organizations the power of E+ and results; cooperation and reduce of conflict and marginalization -brought and established a stable and fruitful and permanent impact to the pax, to their organizations, to local, regional and wider LLL Society. Objectives of the TC for 28 pax: To 1.Increase their competences on conflict resolution and conflict management Methods in multicultural settings for enhancing intercultural dialogue (ID) in their NGO and in local community. 2.develop their self-confidence on how to prevent and solve unexpected conflicts and acts of discrimination within their practice.
