Objectives

The idea for this exchange was developed with the common belief that young people are aware of the opportunities that volunteering can provide, particularly in terms of job prospects. It was concluded that employers value a background in voluntary work. Our motivation for starting this exchange was to improve ourselves personally and professionally, but ultimately it will also benefit society through volunteering. It can be difficult for young people to understand how to apply for volunteering and which activities are the most suitable for them because searching the internet can yield thousands of results and be overwhelming. Some of the young participants we selected didn't see the professional benefits of volunteering at all, while others recognized the potential but struggled to decide on a specific activity and take the first steps. Volunteering can help develop both soft and hard skills that are valuable in the job search. We believe that young people have the potential and desire to do meaningful and worthwhile things, but may not always be motivated to take the initiative. We try to involve them in various volunteering activities and gather feedback on their enjoyment and personal fulfillment. Together with a group of young people active in Protezione Civile Gruppo Lucano, we decided to raise awareness about the value of voluntary work, particularly in terms of enhancing employability. To reach a young target audience, as suggested by our youth group, we decided to create and distribute comic strips on this topic, which align with the "hot-topics" on the European Agenda such as volunteering, active citizenship, and youth unemployment. With this in mind, we decided to set as our main aim "Raise awareness among young people about the importance volunteering has in increasing employability”. As a result, the objectives of our project were: - Improve knowledge and attitudes towards voluntary work, creating awareness about the many transversal skills that can be gained from volunteering - Stimulate creativity by creating comic-strips which might raise awareness about how volunteering can increase employability - Stimulate motivation towards volunteering as a way to personal and career development - Foster the sense of initiative of youngsters - Promote values and objectives of the Erasmus+ Programme The Youth Exchange, the core activity of the project, utilized various non-formal methods and group and personal development techniques to help young people recognize the skills gained from volunteering and how to apply them in the job market. Our young volunteers were passionate about the exchange and its topic, and met multiple times to brainstorm ideas for raising awareness about the opportunities offered by voluntary activities in terms of youth employability. They decided to create comic strips as a flexible and engaging medium for this purpose.
