WHAT WE WANTED TO ACHIEVE BY IMPLEMENTING THE PROJECT When preparing this project we had an idea that one of the most effective ways to make human rights work in each country could be to bring people to understand their own rights as well as to understand how people in other circumstances suffer from human rights violation. Together with partners we decided that we have to find a way to deliver information about human rights which would not only be useful in terms of knowledge brought to the table, but be interesting and interactive as well. We understood that for young people it was not enough just to give text pieces. It had to be something active, involving and memorizing. We decided that an escape room (or quest room) could be a perfect tool where you participants could solve several quizzes and find a way out of the room and a good way to spread knowledge on human rights. We understood that if you put a group in a room which imitates a place where a person dealing with human rights abuse lives would let that group of people to understand how those people feel and that so, after attending such room, it would be much easier to explain to young people why it is important to protect human rights. This way idea about Human rights escape room was accepted and agreed by al partners, so we decided that we should work to gather youth workers and youth leaders on a training course where they could learn about how to make escape rooms based on human rights issues. We were also interested in educating youth in Italy through a new tool based on escape rooms: we aimed to raise awareness about Human rights in spheres of domestic violence, gender discrimination, and immigrants’ rights abuse, as well as understanding how to use escape rooms as a learning tool in order to create similar projects on Human rights back at local communities. So, the escape-rooms in our idea were instruments to work with young leaders, youth trainers, and NGO's representatives to give them a very particular and innovative tool to be used with their specific target groups for developing similar actions in the partners' countries after the training developed in Italy: in this way the job developed by them could be more attractive and could permit to involve more young people and to do it with very interactive initiatives were youngsters could be a real active part of their non-formal education. THE OBJECTIVES CHOOSEN FOR OUR PROJECT The following objectives were set for the development of our training project: 1) To spread ideas of human rights protection; 2) To provide youth workers with tools and knowledge on how to organize escape rooms, which will bring ideas of human rights protection to a greater amount of people; 3) To show that dealing with human rights can be done in various ways through providing participants with ideas and methods on non-standard approach to human rights education; 4) To create working toolboxes with information about escape rooms making which can be used in local communities; 5) To start a network of youth workers in Europe who are ready to do quest rooms on human rights by giving them an opportunity to practice this approach and creating a good atmosphere for connection between participants; 6) To bring the understanding of nowadays problems in human rights area through giving examples, ideas and theoretical knowledge; 7) To raise awareness of such human rights topics as domestic violence, gender discrimination, and immigrants’ rights abuse.
