The idea of the Youth Exchange CultuRural was born during a project writing workshop realized by Basilicata Link with the hosted EVS volunteers of the project Human Capital 2019, during the year 2019. Several international volunteers put together their personal experience and ideas, inspired by the extraordinary story of their EVS hosting city Matera: growing out of the "shame of Italy" to raise until the "European Capital of Culture". The volunteers of HC2019 project were involved in different hosting entities in Matera, all of them, though, shared the same spirit for positive changes and the need to support other young people in knowing better what are their possibilities, so as the importance of learning about the topic of entrepreneurship. Due to their experience in Matera, several of them had realized the crucial importance of the culture not only as an important part of the daily life but also as a tool for development and entrepreneurship. Discovering the rich traditions in the region of Basilicata and South part of Italy in general, and in the same time the difficulties that people are facing as declining and aging population. With the focus of shedding light on marginalized territories and the rural areas of the region of Basilicata in Italy, the Youth Exchange "CultuRural" was born. This Exchange has the objective to include the volunteers of this EVS project as leaders, bringing with them youth from small towns of their country, supporting them to find the same inspiration as they did during this volunteering time in Matera and learning about entrepreneurship and active citizenship thanks to meeting of best practices and experiencing non-formal education. The project on one side wanted to enrich the participants with their first mobility project experience, involving youth with less opportunity profiles, giving them the chance to discover their own potential and learn about the opportunities that EU offers them through the various programs, while opening minds thanks to meeting people from other countries. On the other side the project reached the objective to give the chance to the ex-volunteers to be active in their part of ambassadors for the European Program, to be a direct link between the "not informed youth" and the "European possibilities".
