Objectives

Europe Is... A Tree With Endless Roots is a youth exchange that took place from the 7th to the 15th December 2021 in Benevento. Themes of the project have been: Inclusion-Equity; Creativity and Culture; Equality and non-discrimination. Since more than a decade now, Europe has been experiencing complex economic and cultural transformations, that jeopardise its model of open and cohesive society. Growing transnational inequality - aggravated by 2 years of global pandemic - has fuelled marginality and exclusion that damage youth, firstly. Thus, the first objective of our project was to call youngsters to analyse and reflect upon the roots of social inclusion. The action learning methodology that we used, based on non-formal education, aimed to stimulate in participants attitudes of critical thinking and individual responsibility, breeding ground for the empowerment of the values connected to European citizenship: tolerance, equality, respect of diversity and of human rights. The second aim was to provide youngsters with a focused, high-quality learning process, and with a fresh toolbox of new competences, tools and activities that may support their active citizenship, their participation in the local backgrounds, their activism and the transmission of the learnings to their less-opportunity peers. The youth exchange involved youngsters coming from Germany, Greece, Italy, Poland, Romania, Spain and Turkey. All partner organizations shared roles and responsibilities, and contributed to the project with their expertise, vision and strategies on social inclusion. The activity agenda, developed according to participants’ needs (defined by a needs analysis implemented during the preparation phase), analysed the theme of social inclusion with focus-sessions, and was finalized with a “Youth in Action” session realized by the participants themselves. After the project, Immaginaria has been coordinating the network during the follow-up and dissemination phases: in fact, we have considered this youth exchange as a test for innovative strategies on social inclusion of European youngsters, to be developed with long-term actions in the future.

Background

Europe Is... A Tree With Endless Roots is a youth exchange that will take place from the 8th to the 17th May 2020 in Fragneto Monforte, Italy. Themes of the project are: Inclusion-Equity; Creativity and Culture; Intercultural/intergenerational education and (lifelong)learning. Since a decade now, Europe has been experiencing complex economic and cultural transformations, that put its model of cohesive society to the test. Across-the-board growing inequality fuels marginality and exclusion that damage youth, firstly. Thus, the first objective of our project is to call youngsters to analyze and reflect upon the roots of social inclusion. The action learning methodology that we will use, based on non-formal education, will stimulate in participants attitudes of critical thinking and individual responsibility, breeding ground for the empowerment of the values connected to European citizenship: tolerance, equality, respect of diversity and of human rights.
