Project summary

One of the central concerns of CIPRA, the International Commission for the Protection of the Alps, is to promote the interest, knowledge and ability to act of people in the Alps. The "Re.sources" project (follow-up project to “Living Labs” and "I-LivAlps"), which is scheduled to run for two years, brings people of different ages and from different Alpine countries together to work together to develop process and specialist knowledge on selected topics. The participants of this intergenerational project are committed to the sustainable development of the Alps at local, national and international level. We want to enlarge and reinforce the Network that we are building in the Alps, which started with Erasmus+ project “I-LivAlps”, continued with “Living Labs”, and now enters a new stage with “Re.sources”. The role of young people in the Alpine region is strengthened by active youth participation. The project approach is participative and based on the principles of co-creation between young talents aged 13-30 years, environmental NGOs, civil society and politicians. All participants are actively involved both in the choice of topics and in the process itself. The project results include, for example, job perspectives to maintain or increase the attractiveness of Alpine regions for young generations, it should also help participants understand their position on the alpine territory, and their possibilities to act in order to fight against climate change. The project will be accompanied by media and communicated via traditional media channels as well as social media.

Objectives

See question above. Further: Objective 1: Promoting, engaging, connecting and empowering young people. We connected youngsters and engaged adults through the project’s transnational meetings and the short term joint staff training. This boosted motivation and power to continue their engagement for the protection and development of the Alps. Some people decided to join the CYC (Cipra Youth Council) thanks to this project. Objective 2: Supporting individuals in acquiring and developing basic skills and key competences. The project built capacities at: Partner organisations: how to involve young people / new methods (non formal education, theater play, games). Participants: gained expert knowledge, fostered skills in: project management, idea finding, public relations, organisational skills, language skills, playing theatre, speaking in front of other people etc. Objective 3: Promoting entrepreneurship education and social entrepreneurship activities among young people. The project helped young people step up and develop their own ideas and projects. They left the project empowered and motivated to change things on their level

Background

Climate change, increasing consumption of resources, waste and pollution problems threaten nature and society in the Alps. One of the central aims of CIPRA is to promote interest, knowledge and the ability to act on these topics for the people in the Alps. With the Re.sources project, we followed several aims: - To bring people from different countries together to develop and process knowledge and a common understanding on selected topics, to empower them through skill building - To enlarge and reinforce the network that we are building in the Alps, - To strengthen youth participation in environmental NGOs, understanding action possibities and solutions, - To foster co-creation between young talents, environmental NGOs, civic society and politicians. We believe that all of this is increasingly valuable nowadays to be informed and know how we can act to initiate change. With the project, we fostered the ability to co-create, to initiate projects and changes. We wanted to enlarge and reinforce the Network that we are building in the Alps, which started with Erasmus+ project “I-LivAlps”, continued with “Living Labs”, and followed by the “Re.sources” project.
